250, capped. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy dark tan head. Intensely roasty nose, lots of dark chocolate and lots of apple tartness, a bit of wood, maybe a hint of sweet smoke in the background. Creamy thick body, almost sluggish, definitely low carbonation. Rich complex mid palate showing coffee, dark chocolate, dark red apples and especially apple skins, a bit of vanilla and oak, and some sweet smoke in the background. Wonderful depth, balance, and layering of flavors. Long satisfying finish. Gone far too quickly, even with a whole bottle to myself.

Extremely dark brew. Pours like motor oil and also feels very thick in your mouth. Aroma and taste are on the roasted side with the calvados barrels adding some complexity. Very nice but I liked the cognac version better.

8.5 oz bottle. Black brown with oily tan bubbles around the edge. Nose is dark chocolate, wet wood, brandy and tobacco. Silky, creamy and coating with a tang. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, molasses, prune and apple brandy. A sexy sipper witha kiss of apple; a touch better than the brandy. Hoping to find a bourbon.

Bottle. Pours a black oily beer, with only a little brown foam. Deep aroma of burned malt and fruits. Sticky, oily mouthfeel. Incredibly long, complex and evolving taste. First roasted malt and hops, after that a warming wave of calvados boozy fruitiness follows. Only to emerge in a smooth aftertaste of stingy booze, dark fruits, apple and sweetish roasted malt. What an amazing beer.

Bottle (250 ml) from La Cave A Bulles in Paris. Pours pitch black and inky with no head whatsoever. Aroma of roast, toffee, caramel, chocolate, brandy, sweet, vanilla, some light anise. Flavor is roast, bitter, light chocolate, anise, long brandy and vanilla finish. A bit of the sweet side. Rich body with low carbonation, some dry oakiness. Maybe my least favorite of the trio behind Cognac and Bourbon, but still a nice after dinner drink to relax with. Probably couldn't do much more than a 250 ml.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with a large but dissipating brown head. The aroma is thick and rich, with dark chocolate and coffee, roasted malt, vanilla, alcohol, oak, and apple-calvados notes. The flavour is again full, with lots of dark malts, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, light smoke, oak, and apple-cider like sweetness. The body is close to full and there is an alcohol burn. The fudge-like quality of George and the apple brandy are not my ideal combination. I much prefer the cognac version.

"Another super smooth high abv stout from Mikkeller. Rich in every sense. More stout than barrel at first, but the apple sweetness comes out in contrast to the chocolate as it warms, and they end up playing off each other very nicely. "

Bottle. Black thick pour with tiny lacings. Nose has slight alcohol, green apples, licorice, vanilla and chocolate. Taste is very well balanced, soy sauce, chocolate and vanilla. My kind of stout!
