4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
33cl bottle served in snifter. Pours black - pitch black. I have never seen such an oily imperial stout as this. It only lost a point in the appearance due to the lovely dark brown head almost immediately dissipating. Aroma is hugely powerful. Malts, alcohol, vanilla, oak, treacle and many complex flavours all vying for superiority in this drink. Absolutely massive in every sense of the word with a good alcohol kick. Possibly the creamiest textured beer I have ever tried with such a generous mouthfeel without feeling cloying at all. A true masterpiece just hard to justify the cost when others are so good and are at a lower price point. Still, as a treat on a special occasion you cannot go wrong

Pitch black from a 275ml bottle. No head. Strong roast and calvados smell. Taste is roasted malts, cocoa, alcohol warmth with a long and calvados boozy finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Small bottle via bieropholie. Black with a dark mocha head that completely fades, no chunk in this bottle. Strong alcohol presence, combination of apple, oak and brandy, burnt malt, chocolate, anise, tannin, leather, mild carbonation and full body, quite dry and very very bitter with a hint of pit fruit sweetness, some alcohol burn. Think this one might benefit from some time in the bottle.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Beautiful oily dark pour with a thick layer of milk chocolate head, this stuff is like sludge it’s so thick. Aroma is dark fruit, roasted malts, coffee, brown sugar, and light vinous notes. Taste is roasted malts, oak, wood mixed in with coffee, light vinous notes, thick rich oily mouthfeel, aftertaste is dry roast. Really light treatment from the barrel (this bottle is about two years old) but it adds a nice layer of complexity to an already viscous stout, well balanced, lots of oak, probably the best Mikkeller beer I’ve had to date.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Godly brew! If cognac edition goes bit one dimensional (what a blashphemy), but still superb, then this goes out of bounds. Superb intense maltiness,
intense roast, but same time SO smooth, molasses, dark choco, coffee, vanilla, and that calvados character, at first I thought that it might not work, but it does..
Awesomly pleasant fruitness with roasted characteristics comes wave after wave, bringin each time something new, something more, something WOW.
First time I feel magician balance between sweetness and bitterness dominating, and saltiness and sourness in very light form background completing this fantastic brew.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with great retention and some god lacing. Aroma of sweet black chocolate notes with some light roasted malt with light liquor notes is quiet sublime. Taste is also dominated by sweet black chocolate notes with quite a bit of residual sugars and some light vanilla notes. Calvados is noticeable but not overly so and really cuts through any rough edge form the base beer. I found that the finish was slightly spicy. Body is full with motor oil like consistency and no apparent alcohol. I think I preferred the Cognac and Bourbon version but still an extremely good beer.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Extremely dark brew. Pours like motor oil and also feels very thick in your mouth. Aroma and taste are on the roasted side with the calvados barrels adding some complexity. Very nice but I liked the cognac version better.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
8.5 oz bottle. Black brown with oily tan bubbles around the edge. Nose is dark chocolate, wet wood, brandy and tobacco. Silky, creamy and coating with a tang. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, molasses, prune and apple brandy. A sexy sipper witha kiss of apple; a touch better than the brandy. Hoping to find a bourbon.
