Bottle at home (Nøgne Ø). Black, no head. Aroma heavy malty (caramel, roasted, coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, wood, vanilla, cognac, smoke). Flavor medium sweet, medium bitter, vineous, complex, smooth. Full body, quite flat.

250ml bottle. (Sticker states it is brewed at Nögne Ö, not Lervig...) Pours impenetrably pitch black, with almost no head, save a little brown lacing. Huge, complex aroma, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, ashes, licorice, oak, subtle Cognac notes, vanilla, faint smoke, caramel. Sweet, full bodied (and beyond), high bitterness, low/creamy CO2. Roasted, oaky, complex taste, coffee, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, licorice, ash, hops, vanilla, wood. The obvious understatement is that this beer is quite extreme. Served in a snifter, it is great as a digestif, or with heavy chocolate desserts. Apart from that, drinkability is close to zero. Impressive, nevertheless. (2015-06-18)

Pours black with a very dark tan head. Nose shows heavy roasted malt, sultanas, rich dried fruit and booze. More roast and booze as flavours along with some sweet bready malt, liquorice and cocoa.

Looks like oil, smells like heaven! Boozy, leatherish smell with lots of burnt malts and cognac notes. Really thick, oily mouthfeel. Sweet taste of chocolate, hints of cognac, definitely barrel aged as you can taste it. Also some coffee taste to it. Almost no bitterness. Barely any carbonation. What a beauty!

Starting to feel like a booking record, thanks going to Willrunforbeer splitting his four variants of George with me. This is just the treat I needed this weekend. Really great aroma that is similar to the base stout. Chocolate fudge hints, light ash, sweet barrel/cognac/wood.

The thicker body that is dense and super slick texture across the tongue. This barrel treatment (just like the bourbon variant) compliments the base stout extremely well. Slight warming sensation after the sip with sweet cognac finish. The carbonation is my only complaint because it was very low, but doesn’t hurt the flavor, just couldn’t score over a 4. Otherwise this is a beautiful stout.

Maravillosa.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours thick oily black with dark brown head. Intense aroma has roasted and burnt malts and toffee, tobacco, leather, boozy and sweet whisky/cognac notes, vanilla. Palate is oily, thick and rich. Taste is roasted malts, burnt toffee, plenty of chocolate, sweet vanilla and bourbon, warmth of alcohol. Sweet and intense, plenty of barrel notes - which I like.
