Pours pitch black. The dark creamy head rises a few seconds after the beer is poured. The aroma is: caramel, roasted, chocolate and of course cognac... lots of cognac! The taste is: dark malt, sweet, soy sauce and again lots of cognac. All-in-all a great bold beer with a full body and plenty of complex notes.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thick black pour with a small tan head sweet aromas of oak, molasses, cognac, and cocoa. Flavor is smokey cognac with a nice roasted malt finish. Sweet and robust. I don’t think I could have more than one of these at a time though, it’s a big beer. The abv is very well-hidden. Solid brew.

Odense Beer & Ball Saturday - Genua - Torino. Jet black with a small brown head. Sweet malty aroma of chocolate, licorice and soy sauce, with hints of ham and ink... Very sweet and roasted malty flavour with that umami character of soy and ham, some licorice and spice

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
My Bottom Line:
Molasses, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, wood, alcohol warmth, wealthy dessert, roasted bitterness, hugely chocolatey aftertaste.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin ring of foam surrounds the impenetrable darkness.
-The aroma is a beautiful combination of specialty malts, residual sugars and wooden barrel.
-The Cognac presence is well integrated into the rest of the beer.
-Carbonation is low, increasing the viscosity of the mouthfeel.
-Mouthfeel is Gargantuan, but the sweetness is ably licked by a smidgen of alcohol in the finish so it doesn’t feel TOO cloying. But don’t get me wrong, this is a viscous monster of a brew.
-When in the mood for dessert, this one really fits the bill.
