Bottle 330ml.

[ As Mikkeller George (Cherry Wine) ].
Clear dark black brown color with a large to huge, frothy - creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, cherry wood, light coffee. Flavor is light heavy sweet and moderate to light light heavy bitter with a long duration, roasted, chocolate, cherry, wood. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20150130]

33cl bottle served in a snifter. Pitch black with a massive dark brown head. Thick, oily and syrupy as all the Georges have been. This is massively refined and less sweet than I expected. No cherry in the taste but you can clearly tell the effect the barrels have had on the beer. Oaky, almost earthy but still with a good level of sweetness. Possibly the easiest drinking (everything is relative) of all the Georges I have tried with the Calvados and Bourbon still being rated higher but amongst this company it literally comes down to what you fancy on the day.

33cl bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, oak, chocolate, some ash and a hint of fruit. Flavour is clealy cherries, medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is tonnes of cherries and some oak. This is a little too much.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 28/11/2023.

My Bottom Line:
This viscous Imperial Stout shares wood, dark chocolate and fruity accents into a warming and roasty bitter finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam appears on top of the pure blackness after a semi-hard pour, receding to a ring.
-The barrel character is present, but the cherry wine aspect mostly shows up in the finish.
-This is very well made, as expected, but it cannot stand out amongst the plethora of quality Barrel-Aged Impys, something which the cognac edition of George is able to achieve.
-A light acidity (the cherry wine barrel?) peeks through the finish as well.
-The cherry wine barrel and fermentation character are quite harmonious.
-Cereals, although ridiculously plentiful I’m sure, aren’t perceived that clearly in the flavor profile. This is a sugar, barrel and fermentation-driven profile.
-This one’s almost too cold at cellar temperature. Focuses too much on the alcohol and roast. Towards room temperature, the fruitiness and chocolate develop nicely.

Bottle.
