Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma and taste are malts, roast, dark chocolate, alcohol, some wood, a hint of bourbon or at least a similar sort of liquor. That said, this beer is not straightforward at all. Well what’s to explain. Can’t argue with some beers.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2015 Absolutely the Best of the Series George vs. Brian. Like motor oil black colour with almost no brown head. The rich aroma, distinctive coffee flavour, mixed with bitters. great coffee aftertaste. 15% is unbelievable well hidden.

0,33L bottle (from bierkompass.de). Pours black with brown head. The head doesn’t stay at all. Aroma is intense dark chocolate, roast, sweetness, calvados. Flavor is sweet, dark chocolate, roast, malt, coffee, some alcohol and fruits. Finish is dark chocolate and roast. Overall: very nice.

Bottle. Pitch black, no head. Malt, chocolate and licorice in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet flavor with hints of licorice, oak, caramel, hopjesvla. Vanilla and a hint of apple. Very nice, but the calvados is hard to spot.

330ml (thanks martjoobolut). Pitch black color. Small size, brown head, stays. Roast, sweet, alcohol, berries, red currant, malty aroma. Roast, malty, bit ashy, alcohol, faint spicy hops in taste. Long lasting roast in aftertaste. Medium bitterness and I don’t know if it’s booze or roast. Complex one. I can feel the warmth of alcohol going down the throat.

330ml bottle - thanks martjoobolut
Woh, strong calvados aroma, some vanilla, some toffee sweetness, coffee and liquorice. Way too much alcohol. Black, tight tan head. Strong rich roast, chocolatey, burnt but not astringent. Sweetish, but not sickly. Dark chocolate finish, lovely. The retronasals are interesting, the calvados gives a nice fruity twist to the otherwise roasty elements. Do get the alcohol burn as it goes down, alas. A bit heavy and heady at times, but the dark chocolate aspects are lovely, so it’s nice to sip.
