Bottle. Black colour with a small brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, hint of fruit. Flavour is chocolate, alcohol, dried fruit.

On tap. Pours pitch black with a tiny dark mocca head. Aroma and taste of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and licorice. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Long aftertaste of roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Very good.

Sample from bottle. Aroma very heavy, mature apples and wood dominates. Mouthfeel is very thick, apples and dark malt. Late Taste has some acidity. Not as massive as expected, still very nice.

Un liquide foncé comme une marre de sang séchée et travaillée par le temps. Une tête rasée comme Ivan Drago (Иван Драго) qui s’apprête à livrer la performance de sa vie. Des parfums profondément noirs qui se mélangent à des houblons et un alcool habilement présentés. Des notes rôties massives. Un uppercut de chocolat pur, de la réglisse noire salée et une concentration de grains torréfiés encore chauds et enfumés. Au goût, un crochet absorbé par le corps de mes papilles. Une belle droite houblonnée. Un alcool floral qui revient sans cesse comme un jab. Des notes sévèrement noires et amères lancées comme un direct à grande course. George est agile, souple et possède des mains lourdes. Dans les derniers instants du round ultime, ce grand bonhomme est bien capable de me pincer et de me faire plier les genoux. Voilà bien la preuve que je commence à être trop essoufflé pour faire face à ce type de proposition ultime. (Courtesy of kbudd19. Na zdravie!)

Draft @ beer temple. Aroma is thick liquorice, roast, chocolate and more. Flavour is big roast, sharp liquorice, chocolate, roasty malt and more.

12/03/2013 Bir&Fud Bottega (250ml bottle). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma molto scura color cappuccino, incredibilmente persistente. Naso strabordante, cioccolato fondente, caffé, liquirizia, alcol, nel finale una nota di luppolo, leggerissima nota ossidata. In bocca è eccellente, attacco dolce, cioccolatoso, finale lungo amaro, un po’ sporco, ma di straordinaria intensità. Corpo pieno, ma leggermente inferiore alle attese, carbonazione soft. Imperal stout di primissimo livello!

Dark tan-brown head over an opaque black body. Aroma of black liquorish (and lots of it!), oak, cocoa, roast, smoke. Taste of roast, dark red fruit..lot’s of complex fleeting flavors, bitter, a bit tangy. Palate full and long.

Pours an opaque black with a fair creamy brown with a tinge of red head leaving good lace on the glass. Aroma is black licorice, coco, espresso, toasted oak, and dark fruits. Flavour is dark chocolate, espresso, dark malt bitterness, oak, caramel, and sweet dark fruits. Very smooth and well balanced 11.11 abv beer.

Keg at BrewDog,Birmingham.5th march.Black oily pour with great looking creamy tan coloured head.Just by looking at this one you know that its going to be good.Aromas and flavours of roast malt,dark chocolate,coffee,cocoa,vanilla,oak and booze.Well balanced,thick bodied,lovely tasting sipper.Gonna have to open my calvados barrel aged bottle soon!
