I’m told this is named after the boxer and its no wonder. Looks like motor oil in the glass. At first you don’t taste a whole lot and then whamo knocks you on your ass with a powerful punch of booze, roasted malts, and Coffee. Not for the faint of heart. If they ever make one called Tyson then well...good lord. Delicious.

Oily black. 3 finger dense coffee colored head which seems to never fade
Nose is pretty standard. Cocoa beans, smoke and espresso.
No element is overwhelming. The balance is unique but this balance means that the overall flavor is pretty bland
Lots of coffee, cocoa and oak sort of meld together with a boozy and heavy finish and its almost bland because there’s so much going on
Highly drinkable considering the abv

Keg @ CBC as a drunken road beer. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny dark khaki head. Very oily appearance. The nose is rich chocolate cake, toasted wood. Charred malts. Raging forest fire. Hints of woody hops. The taste is very rich bitter chocolate cake. Plenty of ash and earthy charred malt bitterness. Accents of sweet caramel and raisin. Pretty well balanced stuff. Thick, syrupy body. A real sipper indeed. Tongue-coating oily texture. Overall, a pretty great imperial stout. A robust cold weather treat.

Tap at the Craft, Clerkenwell, 08/02/13.
Rich black with a dirty coffee head that retains well.
Nose is dark roast malt, burnt toffee, molasses, background hops, mineral tones.
Taste follows - light coffee, molasses, dark fruits, soy sauce, booze.
Full bodied, slightly cloying, soft carbonation, boozey dry finish.
Ok - but not and outstanding beer for me - quite boozey and little subtlety.

Tap. Black with small dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, sugar and bourbon. Taste is heavy sweet, full body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Sweet roasted finish. Softer and not as rough as I remembered it.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. Pours black with a lasting and lacing minimal dark brown head. Aroma is heavy with espresso, licorice, hard roasted malts, hops, dark chocolate, spices, vanilla, maduro tobacco. Taste is heavy sweet and bitter. Body is full, texture is super oily / thick. Finish is sweet and very long with booze and slightly adstringent malt. Seems like a obvious candidate for barrel aging - can’t wait to try them out.
