Courtesy of blazer06 pouring inky black with weak mocha head and nice legginess too. The aroma is a bit dusty but also tosses up fudge brownie, dark chocolate, some rich dark fruity esters, a bit of heat and then more chocolate at the end of the draw. Yum. The taste is nice and rich and bold with flavors running from dark roasted to burnt malts, black licorice to a touch of soy and also fudge brownie to velvety dark chocolate. Wow! Rich smooth bold and yummy.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Black beer, as so many stouts are. Head was really dark brown, and if I did not see wrong it had little bit red as colour. Too bad that the head disappeared so quickly, it would have like to examine longer this quite extraordinary foam. There is not lot of smell other than malts and sweetness, but I cannot say same about taste. What an aroma bomb. Liquid is gooey. There’s coffee, caramel, toast, roast, hay, cocoa and even drops. I really, really like this.

Bouteille partagée avec Blazer06.
Noire, mousse est fine et moka laissant un filament doré sur le verre.
Arôme a une fine amertume, malt et chocolat, grillé avec subtile note de malt fumé. Note d’épines de sapin.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at the Euston Tap. Pours an opaque, jet black with a modest, light brown head. Hard, roasted malts on the nose with hints of licorice and soy sauce. Flavor is sweet with dark, burnt malts, with further notes of soy sauce and very distinctive hoisin sauce, raisins, and light mocha. Medium to full in body with soft carbonation. Finishs roasty and malty with some boozy warmth, lingering hoisin and only mild bitterness. Very nice beer. The hoisin sets it apart.

Bottled 250ml. It pours a pitch black beer with an extremely dark beige head. Syrupy, full bodied, astringent, bitter and alcoholic. Over the top for me.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from the Cask Pub and Kitchen. Jet black pour with a tan head. Pleasing aromas of coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate and smoke. Very inviting nose indeed. Palate caressing flavours of dark chocolate, smoke, wood, vanilla and dark roast coffee. Knee trembling alcohol warmth. As dry as Jack Dee’s one liners with a throat massaging sweetness. Lovely!
