COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mikkeller’s tribute to the green gold.

Oct. 21, 2014. Bottle from LCBO. Medium warm brown colour with off-white head. Much darker than anticipated based on the style. Lovely foamy head. Biscuit, straw, lemon flavours and aromas, with a nice maltly backbone to offset the bitterness. I quite enjoyed this one.

330ml lcbo purchase. Pours a hazy murky brownish/light red colour. I get the hops and the resinous styled of this brew but there is almost this almost cucumber note that I can’t quite place. On the palate it find it a slightly new take on the style as it has a certain medicinal flavour or something. Strange brew.

Fruity subtle smell. Hoppy, bitter. More subtle than usual Mikkellers. Dry astringent, leather, lots of resin.

(330mL bottle from the LCBO, 4mo old) Pours a clear dark reddish copper with a midsize frothy medium tan head that lingers well with loads of lace. Aroma somewhat faded due to age, caramel crystal malt comes through the hops more than it should but the latter still quite noticeable: pineapple, orange peel/pith, muddled mangoish tropical fruit. Palate again hints at something better if fresher but still quite decent. Sweet orange, peach, tropical fruit cocktail with hints of mango, honey and light caramel from the malts that become quite prominent in the middle. A drying, astringent but quite moderate bitterness on the finish lends a tea-like quality and quashes much of the malt character and prevents it from being cloying, though a bit of graininess does linger in the aftertaste. Moderate, slightly oily mouthfeel with soft carb. Lots of malt character in this IPA but the orange/tropical character of Amarillo seems to come through well. I just think it would benefit from being fresher, no thanks to the LCBO for letting stuff linger in the lab/warehouse while the hops fade.

Spab (2461) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 18, 2014
330 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clearish copper colour with good-sized, lasting, off-white head. Aroma is citrus, pine, toasty grains and caramel. Flavour is solidly hoppy with equal parts citrus and pine and pretty big maltiness, caramel and modestly toasty grains. Relatively lively carbonation. Nice.

Bottle from the LCBO. Slightly hazy copper-red with a thin off-white head. Solid aroma with expected big IPA notes - citrus, pine, caramel - along with some unexpected and more interesting ones - grilled peach, mint, aniseed candy. Medium bodied, enough to carry the flavours - roasted barley, toffee, grapefruit pith, pine resin, crushed mint - without being sticky. Finish is long and pleasingly bitter, but with a balancing sweetness to keep it from being too tongue-curling. Very good!

deepeary (133) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 17, 2014
330 ml bottle from LCBO. BB 06.19.2016. Pours deep, almost brown amber, a bit hazy. Lots of light beige hear and lacing. Nose is hoppy, pine dominates, some citrus rind, floral and toasty malt notes. Taste follows the nose, nice lingering bitter finish. Not bad assuming this bottle is 4 month old. Would love to try it super fresh.

neuromatt (1169) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 14, 2014
330 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy orange-amber with a tall, frothy beige head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has big notes of pine and citrus peel; these are paired up with caramel, biscuit and peach. The flavour is very well balanced between piney-citrusy hops and toasted, biscuity, caramelly malts on the other. Notes of peach, honey and a touch of tropical fruit come through as well. The finish is long and medium bitter with pine and toffee. On the palate, it is medium in body with a milky texture and average carbonation. Overall, a very nice IPA with American-style hops but more British-style malts. Very well balanced, very tasty. 2014-10-14

sudomorph (658) - Barrie, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 13, 2014
330ml bottle. Pours a cloudy caramel colour with a one finger, khaki head that sticks to the glass. Aroma has great notes of resin, pine, citrus, tropical fruits, and a nice bit of bready caramel to round it out. Taste is a balanced bitter. Pine, resin, caramel, bread, and orange citrus with a resiny aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Medium resiny texture with a smooth carbonation and dryer finish. Overall a tasty beer. Solid flavours of pine and resin mixed with a good caramel and bread backbone.

Smells nice, sweet maltyness mixed with piney and oniony hops. Very much in the DIPA kind of style, at elast from the smell. Dark ruby color with a long lasting foamy white head. Tastes nice and smooth, more so than expected for the amount of aroma coming from this one. Upfront piney and sweet maltyness, finishes with some leafy hops. Creamy consistency, very well balanced even if these are not my favorite hops. Medium bodied and average carbonation.
