Mikkeller’s tribute to the green gold.

Pours hazy apricot gold. Aromas of relatively restrained juicy hops - marmalade, melon and pine. Nice nutty caramel malt backing, even hints of vanilla and chocolate in there. Flavour is hop dominated but still surprisingly balanced. Mouthfeel is full, almost creamy which is a bit strange for style but works really well. Finishes with a really soft bitterness. Very drinkable but overall I expected a little bigger and brighter hops.

Strong citrus, some grass and herbs. Beautiful browness. Very bitter, medium sourness. Average carbonation. Best IPA you can buy now in Finland in stores.

Bottle (bb 3/13). Dirty amber with a huge light beige head that fades to a rocky 2cm. Aroma of nectarines, grapefruit, mandarins, pine, biscuity malt. Taste is quite sweet and fruity - apricots more than nectarines - with earthy yeast before sharpish aromatic bitterness that is more pine than citrus. Big lingering bitterness. I was expecting that clean but substantial malt side of the single hop series brewed at this site and found its replacement a bit dirty and unfocussed. Good hops, but rather untidy.

31/07/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Corpo medio, carbonazione generosa. Ottima IPA.

Tap at Mayor of Old Town - hazy gold - extremely dry IPA, exploding with citrus and dank earthiness - lemon and orange rind - pine resin - some Biscuity maltiness underneath it all the give those hops something to cling to - an excellent IPA.

From notes. One of the better Mikkeller IPAs that I’ve tried, but not my favorite. Pours a fairly dark amber-orange with a beige head. Aroma is quite hoppy. Big notes of grass, wildflowers, lemons, tangerines, minerals and earth. There’s a pretty strong caramel malt flavor, as well. The taste has a lot of that same caramel malt and European-ish hops. It’s a bit more of a hop nectar than I normally prefer, but Mikkeller is much better at crafting this type of IPA than most brewers, so it still works pretty well. Pretty thick on the palate for the abv. Good stuff.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of earthy hops is dominating with some medium notes of dry caramel malt. Taste is dominated by earthy hops notes which are quite pleasant though I prefer more citrus oriented IPA. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Well brewed and packs a good hops punch without being a one-dimensional bitter bomb.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2015 A pretty run of the mill citrusy ipa with a bit more caramel malt sweetness than I’d like. Could be better, could be worse; would prefer to try on draft. Pretty much the same in the can as it was years ago in the bottle: too malty to be my style of IPA, but not bad.

POurs caramel colored with fluffy head. Flavor is perfectly balanced with equal parts creaminess and pithy citrus notes. Gorgeous brew.
