Mikkeller’s tribute to the green gold.

Bottle. Amber, hazy, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish, some caramel, piney and citrus hoppyness, some fruitiness. Body is average, malty and sweetish flavor, grapefruit and piney hoppyness. Finish is average to long, malty and dryish, grapefruit and piney hoppyness. Nice dryish IPA. Aroma is quite sweetish – aroma and flavor/finish are not in balance.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a billowing off white head with super heavy lacing. Pine hops with a balance of caramel maltiness and a touch of lemon. Fairly resinous pine hops kicks it off, rounds out much like the nose with caramel sweetness and bitter orange peel, finishes a bit peppery and dry with high bitterness. Lively carbonation but smooth nonetheless. Very good IPA.

Bottle from EZ liquors. Pours out a cloudy, well carbonated copper with a moderate off white head. Aroma is of pine, citrus hops and some caramel. Taste is some pine and citrus hops, caramel and a sweet and bitter finish. Overall a solid, IPA, but I found myself looking for more from Mikkeller, especially at the numbers they get price wise.

Pours little cloudy amber colour with a profuse and frothy very light tan head. Nice spiced and herbal aroma with some fruity notes that last log and it developes later even more. Heavy to medium bitterness in the taste and very refreshing, round flavour. Medium to full body, oily feel, average to soft carbonation and long very bitter after taste. Good one.

Bottle shared by Butters at the 14th Richmond Gathering. Pours clear amber with a large, frothy cream head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma and flavor are heavy malt (toast, caramel, bread), heavy hops (floral, citrus, pine), and average esters (apple/pear) with notes of peach, pineapple, and alcohol. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a dry finish.

Sampled at the Richmond 14th Gathering. Spicy and a little funky and a little cat pee. Very nicely blended and balanced. Very good.

emacgee (4485) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - MAR 17, 2011
Pours a clean translucent amber with one finger of sandstone head. Nose is sweet with some peaches, light citrus, and fruit, bready malt, and a bit herbal. Flavor is nicely balanced with a piny herbal hop character atop a caramelly sweet malt profile. Medium bitterness and body.

Bottle, thanks emacgee. Nose of faded hops and caramel malts--an all too familiar smell with many European "American style" IPA’s. Flavor is a little worse. Slightly astringent and messy. Some tropical fruits and sugary candies. Not a terrible drink and I can suffer through it but this needs to be consumed fresher.

On tap at CASK Pub & Kitchen. Pours a deep cloudy amber, with a big thick off white head. Aromas of citrus, orange rind, belgian yeast, and a good piney hop. Taste has a massive bitter hit up front, then lemon, orange peel, mandarin, bitey pine and grass. Fantastic beer!
