3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn tap ($9): Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is mildly hoppy, somewhat spicy, pale malts, and a bit of pine. Taste is nothing outstanding. For a beer called hoppy Christmas, I was expecting a whole lot more. Had a sort of medicinal taste. Alcohol is well-covered, but I was unimpressed.

Hazed orange pour with a white head. Sweet citrus, orange, and caramel malts. A lot of pine, plenty of ginger, and a hint of grapefruit. A bit of bread, spice, and toast, too. Tastes pretty sweet and malty. A lot of bread, toast, and caramel. Candied orange peel, citrus, and pine notes. Some nice ginger qualities, spice, and floral hops.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ home. Hazy orange with some yeast particled, big and lasting fluffy white head. Smells hops, grapefruit, fresh, apricots, some malts.. Quite lovely! Tastes hoppy, grapefruit, bitter, refreshing, sweet and fruity. This is a nice soft beer with a great taste and smell. Would say it has 7,8% abv.. Would’ve guessed it has about 6%. Nothing wrong with the body though, nice medium heavyness with lovely soft carbo. Above average for sure!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a deep golden color with a rich bone white head. The ginger and pine complemented the hoppiness really well, but there wasn’t a whole lot to the flavor beyond that. I wouldn’t say it stands out in the IPA world, but as an addition to the usual type of Christmas beers, it’s more than welcome. Gotta love the label art, too (an underrated part of the beer experience IMO).

Keg before Christmas at the Hanging Bat.
Huge huge fern evergreen resiney hop pine dominant taste and feel here. Until the end this completely envelops the beer in a cheery Christmas sort of way. At the finish there is some tropic fruit and a bit of sweetness but by this point I wish the hopstatic sleigh ride would have just kept going. A superb Christmas beer

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Slightly opaque honey gold beer with a lumpy healthy white casting of pillowy snow on top. The nose is very hoppy, lots of fruits - oranges, tangerines, mango and you can also pull out a little of the pine. Taste in the mouth flips it on its head slightly - initially there’s a strong ginger POW, then those fruits come back into the fore with a generous amount of maltiness. You can taste the pine a little in the beer, but not immensely and the finish is a lovely lush fruity bitter with a slight piney-ginger "fizz" on the palate. Pretty delicious for a Christmas beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
15 cl. draft sample @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. IPA brewed with ginger & pine needles (really? Odd, like a serious amount or just a dash? If a lot where did they get enough? Pick them? Is pine finally justified as a tasting note? I am seriously curious here?) Either way, I believe that I have done all Mikkeller x-beers of 2012 now, no clunkers here, all fine beers just like this one. I dig even the label of this one, it is so silly & I am usually not a fun of his work. Pours a hazy orange with a creamy white head. Smell is sweet peach, American hops, sweet yeast, summer fruits, flowers,… Taste is sweet, yeast, peaches, floral hops, American hops, sugary, light flowers, summer fruits, oranges,… Fuller body, seriously yummy IPA. Well done & yeah and IPA is not Christmasy but after so many heavy Belgian quead’s, ales etc. it is a fine change of pace.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Interestingly complex and herbaceous nose with notes of ginger and pine - unsurprisingly. Pours a medium-pale gold with a fluffy head. Flavour is fresh and dry with notes of sweet tropical fruits and a spicy underpinning bitterness. Let down a touch by being overcarbed in the finish making for a more cloying lingering note than you’d want. I’ve had better from Mikkeller.
