At Mikkeller, we are firm in our belief that the best ideas from the brightest minds can be found among the ranks of the home-brewers. That is why we continue to nurture the innovative guys (so far only guys, come on ladies!) that make up the backbone of the big, bad home-brewing beer scene.
The 2011 Hop Bomb Challenge winner is Søren Davids – winning the title two years in a row! Our Swedish brothers followed up strongly, with Sea-goat Brewing coming in second and Christian Kapusta third.
A big thanks to all of you who went through the trouble of brewing and submitting a Hop Bomb. We at Mikkeller appreciate the amount of love (and hops) that goes into every one of your home-brews.
Brewed as collaboration between Søren Davids and Mikkeller.

Ingredienser: Vand, malt, (Pale, Munich, Caramunich, Wheat), humle (Simcoe, Centennial, Athanum) og gær.

500ml brown bottle. Orange pour, light haze. Big creamy white cap, sticky sheet lacing in the glass. Nose has some caramel malt, orange peel, earth and pine. Taste big piney hops, caramel malts in the middle, ends with zesty orange peel, grapefruit and pine. Medium bitterness, dry end. Body is medium, soft carbonation, creamy and smooth, easy drinker. Nice hoppy ale.

Slightly flat appearance wise, but a nice amber colour. Presence of sediment only added to allure. Very yeasty/vegimite smell - still enticing; a slight floral hint also. Palate is unreal, ultra silky - not too bitter, not too weak - stays in mouth for the perfect amount of time. Very slight chocolate taste with a very light butterscotch after. Hoppy goodness. Great pick.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orangegoldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch hopfig malzig, fruchtig bitter. Geschmack angenehm fruchtig herb, malzig fruchtig.

From the old notes, so this is not a full rating more just a mark to myself that I have tried this one. About the beer: it was good hoppy APA.

I really liked this one, golden orange body with short lasting head, grapefruit and orange on the aroma, bitterness and taste is just right, very drinkable.

A touch bland on the nose, some floral and citrus notes. To be honest a little disappointing on the nose for me but boy-oh-boy does it make up for it in the taste. A rich deep almost cloyingly intense hop fest that was so perfectly balanced out that it made a grown man smile.

Pours a nice gold with some head that hangs around for a while. Aroma is hoppy and fruity. Body is well carbonated and quite bitter. Aftertaste is hoppy and hangs around for ages. All in all, a quality beer for hop lovers!

Bottle from Berlin Bier Shop. Pours hazy orange with small white head. Nose is fruity and crisp hops. Smooth fruity, mango and peachy. A nice passion bitterness to end

Pours orange/amber with a white head. Smells of citrus, hops, and flowers. Tastes of bountiful hops, but well balanced. Some citrus and nice bitter on the front and back end. Tasty beer for sure.
