At Mikkeller, we are firm in our belief that the best ideas from the brightest minds can be found among the ranks of the home-brewers. That is why we continue to nurture the innovative guys (so far only guys, come on ladies!) that make up the backbone of the big, bad home-brewing beer scene.
The 2011 Hop Bomb Challenge winner is Søren Davids – winning the title two years in a row! Our Swedish brothers followed up strongly, with Sea-goat Brewing coming in second and Christian Kapusta third.
A big thanks to all of you who went through the trouble of brewing and submitting a Hop Bomb. We at Mikkeller appreciate the amount of love (and hops) that goes into every one of your home-brews.
Brewed as collaboration between Søren Davids and Mikkeller.

Ingredienser: Vand, malt, (Pale, Munich, Caramunich, Wheat), humle (Simcoe, Centennial, Athanum) og gær.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a hazy amber with a smallish off-white head. Very fresh and intense hop aromas. Medium body, dry caramel accents and then again a shitload of hops that add both complex aromas and a massive bitterness. 030812

Draft at Mikkeller, Copenhagen. Hazy amber beer, little off white head. Softish palate with fine stinging carbonation. Creamy malt well joined up to a vicious hop attack. Juicy orange marmalade and bitter fresh yellow grapefruit. Strong bitter linger. Sigh! Nice to be back in the Mikkeller bar - wish they would open a London one!

I was afraid to search for this ine, since I didn’t know what the Secret Service would do if I entered the word "bomb" into a search engine. Draft. Hazy amber color. Aroma of pine, grass, citrus. Taste is bitter lemongrass and pine. OK.

Keg at CBC Clerkenwell, London. Pours hazy gold with a fine, white cream head. Aroma offers up a hefty dose of pine, with some lightly toasted pale malts. Medium sweet flavor with lots of toasty sugars, more pine, some ripe grapefruit, subtle herbs. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lots of sticky, resinous pine to finish, some toasty grass, lightle baked pale malts, some rindy orange and grapefruit citrus. Nice APA. There’s a good bit of nuance in here. While there is a touch of abrasive grass in the aftertaste, overall I quite enjoyed this beer.
