3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. hazy copper body, big beige head. Good hoppy aroma, citrus, grass, peach, pine. Even though the amarillo has a pretty rich taste, the taste of malt base of the beer is still present, combined with the hops mango and citrus tones, a good bitterness, and finish of grass and citrus. Used in correct amounts i find the Amarillo a really well tasting hop, as shown in this beer.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl bottle. brewed 2012-04-25, best before 2014-04-25. No batch info.
orange colour with a medium big white had that settled down fast.
Aroma is laden with bitterness and tropical fruits. Malty. Some yeast.
Flavour is refreshing and nice. Medium bitterness. A decent blend of tropical fruits and malts, though more malts than hops and fruits.
Some bread and yeast. Probably needs another hop to balance it out.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Intro: I tested 10 beers from Mikkellerís Hop Series over a two day period. Some characteristics were quite similar, so Iíll divide this rating in two: a general part for the Hop Series and a specific part for the individual beer. The beers that were tested (in testing order, sorted by IBU): Willamette, Cascade, Centennial, Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe, Super Galena, Sorachi Ace, Bravo and Columbus.
General: All beers had a bit to much malt aroma and sweetness in my opinion. Iím not sure I liked the choice of Munich malt. In general, they all lacked some carbonation as well. Quite good beers though, Iím just pointing out some flaws.
Specific for Amarillo: Lots of malt aroma, lacks hop to be a good IPA. The malt aroma and sweetness in the beer is quite good standing for itself though, but itís not the best characteristic for an IPA.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep copper with a thick lasting head. Aroma is grapefruit and caramel. Pretty sweet for an IPA, I appreciate the malt backbone. Bitterness is mild for an IPA and is overall well balanced. Has a medium body with average carbonation, not as thin as typical IPAs which I appreciate. The finish is bitter and lasts awhile. Iím not sure how fresh it was coming from europe so maybe some of the hoppiness has faded, but it is still a solid IPA. Canít go wrong with amarillo.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from the crazy september release in Vika 2012
Dark copper, big beige head. Smells of citrus, orange and some zests. Taste is light to moderate sweet, some malt and fruityness. Heavy bitter, some citrus zests and a bit resins. The amarillo version is a quite nice IPA, still i have to say that amarillo for me works best as a aroma or dry hop. I really like amarillo but itís maybe not as versatile as for example simcoe
