COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Pours deep gold into a snifter. Pancake head recedes leaving spider lacing. Roasted caramel and resin aromas. Dark sweet caramel front to back with a dry, lasting resin finish.

Bottle. A clear one, dark golden in color and with a dense, off-white fingerthick head. Lacings. Lots of grapefruit on the nose, pine cones and generic citrus. Sort of grassy and woody. A bit weak on the nose actually, but nice. Smooth, dry and nicely carbonated, with flavors of grapefruit and resins. Fine bitterness in the finish. A nice beer with a short finish, but I don’t think it’s well suited as a single hop. 110908

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2011 Sampled at Mikkeller Hop Series tasting - Dahlbergs, Helsingborg. August 2011.
Aromas of pineapple, papaya and other tropical fruits, grass and summer meadow. The taste is fresh and fruity with hints of hay, doesn’t have the big sweet punch like some of the others had. Pretty dry.

2011-08-10. Crisp orange body with a small beige head and nice lace. 3+ Flavour has a fairly leafy character at first, modest resin, green hops linger in the finish. 7+ Modest hoppy aroma, modest lemon-grapefruit citrus, light grassy touches. Average plus bodied palate. Lingering zippy lemon and green hops in the aftertaste. Bit of lemon notes, but not nearly as much citrus as I had hope for from cascade. Huh. Okay, but disappointing. All 19 in this hop series are shared with my husband, Anton. It’s hazy bronze with a red hue and a huge, creamy head. The aroma has notes of citrus, papaya, spruce, hay and malt. The flavour is pretty much the sam plus a fair share of caramel. The finish is dry. Normally I adore Cascade hops, but this doesn’t really do the trick, and I’m wondering why...?

Bottle 33cl. A clear golden beer with good head. Nose is opulent and floral. Aroma is citric, bitter, some acid presence, quite high bitterness on aftertaste, slightly resinous too. Not bad,in best half of the series.

Pours amber with a medium head a light notes of spipce. The palate shows some malt characteritics and a light caramel that blends into a hoppy citric and spiced finish. The finish is quite dry.
