COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

[5/8/12] Draught at Mikkeller Bar in Copenhagen. Clear reddish amber. Nice citric and floral Cascade aroma. Bitter hoppy flavor with light maltiness and lots of grapefruity bitterness. Medium-bodied. A decent IPA.

330 ml @ Yngwies, all 19 varieties of single hop beers tasted at the same day in September 2011. Slightly unclear, deep golden body with a dense off-white head. Nice but surprisingly mild aroma, citric-peaches fruit and flowers. Flavor is fruity with a malt flavor that feels a bit dry and hint of wood and moderate bitterness. Medium body and a bit short on aftertaste. A quite nice IPA, but I thought I know this hop better by now and was a bit surprised actually.

Tasting Session of Mikkeller Hop Series: Tasting nr3. Darker amber coloured beer with quite some carbonation and a medium slightly off white head. Light hoppy sweet hinted aroma with some veggy notes this time. Medium to full light sweet palate. Finish is full bodied, some fruity (ripe fruits) and a short hoppy hinted ending. Not bad.

Copper orange, thick white head that lasts well. Aroma is fresh & green/grassy, citrus (grapefruit), fresh spicy & peachy-sweet fruit - very nice and typically American style. Taste is light cara & very fruity (oily, bitter citrus peel, peach). Starts sweet, then fruity, then a briefly lingering, harsh bitterness. Eventually left with lingering, fresh fruit & floral aftertaste on tongue. Aroma & taste are fairly complex for single hop; keep noticing new components. Nice, drinkable, enjoyable and surprisingly well-rounded for a single hop, but let down slightly by unpleasant bitter edge,

From notes. First reviewed 12/7/2011. Served on tap in a tasting glass at Bangers & Lace. Tettnanger, Palisade, Cascade, Galena, Super Galena, and Simcoe were all tasted side by side. The appearance of the single hop series does not really vary from beer to beer. Each one is a golden caramel color with a fluffy whit ehead that displays good retention and leaves a web of lace down the glass. There is a good amount of grapefruit and citrus in the aroma. The flavor starts sweet, with a growing caramel slowly covering pieces of orange zest and juicy grapefruit. The finish is moderately bitter. Like the other Single Hop beers, this has a medium body and medium carbonation. This is a nice beer. The issue with this series is that many hops are best stacked on top of each other to create a fuller taste profile. By isolating the hops the weaknesses of each variety come through.

Hazy amber color; medium sized creamy head. The aroma is very mild, with some fruits, and very light tobacco leaves; really below expectations. Toffee flavor, a bit soulless; the mouthfeel is smooth; the bitterness is decent, with hop resins, but without a serious "bite" and freshness. Average.

Bottled. Poured slightly hazy, reddish-amber with a fluffy, sticky cap of beige head. The aroma picked up spicy pine and grapefruity notes over bready notes and berry sweets.. more malt-forward.. balanced and pleasant. The flavor found similar similar sweetness at the core, with black pepper, grapefruit zest, and spicy pine bitterness around.. finished fairly bitter and a little sour. Medium-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation on the palate.. this was probably more bitter when fresh, but it was still good.

Bottle from CASK Pub and Kitchen, London. Orange, with nice beige cream topping. Smells like that familiar cascade smell, which was all the rage a few years back. Taste is rather peppery, with some jammy bitter orange and pineapple. Very dry finish. Nice enough, but needs a little sweetness and less carbonation on the tongue.
