COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Overraskende svak aroma, flott skumtopp som på de fleste single hop serien, offwhite farge, usikker på farge, nesten brun, smak: litt sødme, lengre ettersmak en andre i samme serie. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

As goes for all the Hop Series beers I’ve tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Nice orange color with big head (darkness varied a bit). Grapefruits, as expected from Cascade, but not exactly as much as expected, due to the older bottle. Sweetness comes through, refreshing and easily drinkable. Good!

12 oz bottle to a tulip. The beer pours a muddy copper amber with sediment and a thick, off white head that slowly shrinks and leaves very nice lacing. Aroma is grassy and floral hops. Sweet caramel and toffee are there as well. Taste is citrus hops right away. They are strong and met with a caramel/toffee malty flavor that balances nicely. Lots of grapefruit and orange zest. The beer hides the alcohol well, however it clings to the mouth almost too long, leaving a bitter taste after a while. Overall very tasty.

2011 batch, only 38 ibus. i thought this would be among my favorites. while it was pleasant, it ended up in the bottom third (of the first half). more spicy than floral, with lighter than expected citrus notes."

Pours a cloudy brownish-amber color with a medium thick foamy off-white head that recedes gradually. Patchy lacing. Aroma of grainy malt, caramel and hops. Medium body with flavors of grainy malt, earthy hops and ripe fruit. The finish is malty up front with a short fruity hops aftertaste. I assume this bottle is older despite being bought recently, but it is tough to blame the store and not the brewer for not providing dating. Decent overall.

Pours a cloudy brown with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma of citrus and malts. Flavor of pine, caramel, and citrus a the finish. Decent.

Pours cloudy reddish brown with marginal head. Aroma is malty, slightly grapefruity. Taste is....not as good as I hoped. It is missing something, but it slightly malty, acidic, earthy, citrus peel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours hazy and cloudy burnt orange to amber with a large, frothy and bubbly off-white to light beige head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is cardboard oxidation, pine and herbal hops, toast and light cookie malt. Flavor is oxidized and stale hops, medium bitterness, supporting malt and a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

Bottle from a Binny’s mixed 4-pack of Mikkller’s ’Single Hop’series’. Figured I’d start with this one. Pours orangey, cloudy (my fault as it was in the trunk overnight when it was about 2 degrees here in Chicago), nice off-white head with good retention and nice lacing, a whole bunch of floaties though. Nose is floral (smells a lot like the all the old microbrews that were out before the hop revolution started bringing all the new strains with various flavor profiles in). Hop forward (and hop afterward), grapefruit and wildflowers, decent hoppy bitterness and a soapy finish, however almost no malt detectable, . Drinkable but not very balanced... which would be cooler had this been a Galaxy varietal seeing as that’s my favorite type o’ hops.
