This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Pours a hazy orange color with lots of off-white head and lacing. There are LOTS of particles floating around. Aroma is not strong and all I notice are some subtle pine and citrus notes. Taste is bitter. The body is medium and overall the beer is smooth with a dry finish. I wonder about the freshness of this because it was on clearance and the other reviews make no mention of floating particles.

330ml bottle from Valhalla’s Goat. Muddy dark amber brown, not much head. Tropical fruit & hop aroma. Leafy tropical fruit flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A great hop.

Bottle from Erzbierschof - Hazy amber color, good offwhite head - Aroma is fruity, citrusy, pine, resinous, old hops aroma - Flavor is citrusy, exotic fruits, malty, hints of caramel - Medium body, good carboantion, medium bitterness, dry, dry bitter finish - not really exciting

Pours reddish brown, with a frothy head. Aroma is earthy, sort of fruity, but not the super nice tropical fresh fruit smell, more, a bit off..........taste is malty, slightly fruity, dry finish, not my favorite of the series....

Dark amber and cloudy with a med off white head. Aroma is very earthy and citrus with a lite sweet under tone. Taste just like it smells with a sharpe bitterness on the finsh.

Bottle from a Binny’s mixed 4-pack of Mikkller’s ’Single Hop’series’. Third one in that 4-pack thus far. This one pours a deep, burnt orange, cloudy (my fault as it was in the trunk overnight when it was about 2 degrees here in Chicago), nice off-white head with okay retention and nice lacing, a whole bunch of big chunky floaties though. Nose is more malty than hoppy, some orange peel in there, a hint of pine. Mouth is medium-dry, resinous and lemon zest standing out in a dense orangey-carmelly malt backbone, a bit astringent on the back end with a long, lingering bitter finish.

Doesn't have a big aroma - slightly yeasty and resinous. Taste is more interesting than the smell (which is definitely not true of all of the single hop series IPAs) - quite piney, a bit grassy, with a small amount of florals. Very drinkable. Palate is nicely oily and dry, perhaps a little watery. A pretty nice one of the single hop IPAs that I've tasted.

Same amber-copper color as the others in this series. Looks great. Very deep piney aroma, also a bit of honey. Taste is similarly piney, followed by herbaceous bitterness and tiny bit of citrus peel. No floral taste, nor much sweetness. Quite drinkable. One of my favorites of the single hop series.

I was looking forward to Trying Mikkeler, since it gets so many praises of being good and innovative brewer. I was excited to find It’s Hop Series at a reasonable price. Unfortunately my anticipation and excitement was not matched by high standards that everyone praises Mikkeller to live by. Everyone in supply chain is to blame… Mikkeller does not have production dates, Distributor Trying to sell the product no matter what, Binny’s not having balls to stand up to its supplier and let them know that it is out of date and no good. I was pissed… All of them were old and stale, therefore complete waste of time and money. Every time I come across bad batch I swear to stop buying anything that has no dates… I just might do that, since there are plenty of other choices… Going Back to Mikkeller Hop Series… All of them Poured A Shade Lighter Or A Shade Darker of Muddy Brown. All of them Had Smaller or Larger Floaters. Huge Head, Decent Lacing. Earthy, Stale Hops Aroma. Tasted pretty much the same: Earthy, Malt, Stale Hops. Moderate Bitter Finish… Pass It Unless You Know It Is Fresh…
