This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

I think FINALLY im going to write off all Foreign IPAs. Theyre never fresh even if they just arrive at the store and they are always overly malty bitter and little hop flavor or aroma. Bah

intense color and turbid orange with white foam. Aroma of orange peel, tangerine, citrus, grapes and bread and caramel malts. Some floral and earthy notes. Full of tropical fruit flavor, grape, passion fruit, orange peel, citrus juice, tangerine and sweet malt. Aftertaste of tropical fruit and citrus zest ubiquitous. Medium bodied and low carbonation.

Drank side by side with the 19 other variants of the serie. I would like to note up front that - since these beer’s are no longer in production, they were not fresh. this rating should thus be viewed with that in mind, and can shed a light on the ’ageing’ differences between the variants. They were probably better fresh... Pours rather clear, dark amber, small white foam. Smell is sharp, wood, almost roasty even. Taste is sharp, not citrussy at all anymore, really malty and bitter though. Dry, very faded freshness. Bit plastic-like , but the taste can make kindoff scence if you know the hop...

8 Nov 2013. Surprise birthday single hop IPA tasting! Smells very nice, sweet and fruity, with lots of citrus and some florals. Taste is much less interesting than the aroma - bitter with some soapy/metallic taste but not much else going on.

12 oz bottle from notes. Pours a hazy amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have grapefruit citrus, orange, pine resin, moderate sweet bread, light earthy notes. Medium bodied. Finishes with more citrus, brown bread, moderate bitterness. Hops seem faded a bit. These always seem to hit too late in the game.

whoa, looks like I forgot to upload this rating. EDIT: aha, I took the wrong Citra IPA back then. sorry. As goes for all the Hop Series beers I’ve tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Citrus hoppy. Citrus taste, bitter. Good finish but gone quickly. Refreshing. One of the better ones!

Muddy looking, blood orange colour. Particulates. Solid head. Aroma is kind if earthy, malty. Hops are a bit caramel, orange. Taste is very bright, citrusy, bitter full taste. So delicious! Feel is medium full, lingering. Long deep finish. Really good.
