This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Butters (3792) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 17, 2012
Sampled at the Irish Hanukkah Tasting. Sampled side by side with 13 other ones, and all the bottles must be at least 6 months old by now. Clear amber pour with fair soapy offwhite head. The aroma doesn’t really show up that much at all, Flavor however is a bit spicy and clean, with earthy undertones.

Bottle courtesy of Butters at the Irish Chanukah tasting. Pours clear amber with a large, frothy off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is heavy pine and floral hops, light biscuit malt and tropical fruity esters. Flavor is heavy hops and medium bitterness, fruity esters, good supporting malt, lightly spicy booze, and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

Bottle shared by Butters at the Baltimore Irish Hannukah Gathering, 3/17/12. Thanks! Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a very large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of big bready malts, some caramel, faint catty and herbal hops. The taste is herbal hops, some citrus, leafy notes. Caramel and bready hops. Medium bodied.

Bottled. Poured fiery medium orange with a dense, sticky off-white head. The aroma picked up orange, pineapple, and spicy floral hoppage over a soft fruit and bready base.. quite nice. The flavor found orange meat and bready notes at the core, with orange zest and peppery bitterness around.. finished spicy with nice balance between the components. Medium-bodied and spicy as mentioned on the palate.. dense carbonation, but it kept moving.. overall really good.

A nice fruity (slightly piney) hop aroma and taste. Had this one on tap at the Mikkeller Bar shortly after their single hop series event 2011.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen
Parallel with Willamette

Hazy amber color; small head. Mild caramel aroma, light toffee fudge and candi sugar, and sushi (better than the Willamette). Neutral caramel flavor, on the dry side, and neutral hop component; there is a correct (strong) bitterness level and a light but pleasant fruity touch, but also a bit dusty in the final.

Palme (3459) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 1, 2012
0.33l bottle from Kihoskh, Copenhagen shared with ClubGonzo and the rest of Bergen Tasting Crew. This one pours a clouded copperish body with a light beige bubbly and sidesticking head. The aroma has tones of the, by now well known, cat piss, some berry-branches and perhaps even some light sweet melon. Average carbonation levels here and a mild oily mouthfeel. Flavors are malty, some berry and melon tones. Ends light dry with a mild clustery-bitter aftertaste. Maah, not a favorite this hop.

(330ml bottle) Pours a clear orange body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of florals, caramel, herbal, and perfume. Flavor of grass, caramel, earth, and light fruitiness with a bitter finish.
