This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

As goes for all the Hop Series beers Iíve tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Nice orange color with big head (darkness varied a bit). Concentrated fruits. Peach. Fruity, sweet taste, also orange peels. Bitterness doesnít linger too long.

Pours a hazy, carbonated, sediment filled amber color with thick tan head. A dark fruit and malt aroma. A strong malty taste with dark fruit, caramel, and light hop taste. Tastes more like a Belgian wheat than an IPA. A raisin/dark fruit aftertaste.

Okay this is 6 months past use-by date but here goes - the usual (too) robust and (too) heavy (for me) roast malt base - decent complex herbal/piney aroma still there, which is mirrored on the palate - too short lived bitter kick - I like it, although it doesnít set my world on fire.

Bottle: Poured a dirty cloudy amber color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dusty dank hops with leafy notes and some biscuit malt notes. Taste is dominated by dank musty hoppy notes withleafy notes and some biscuit malt. Body is full with good carbonation. Another one where I do have to ask why do retailer keep overpriced IPA which donít move with no freaking bottling date.

330ml bottle from Thistle News, Aberdeen. Orange brown, reasonable head. Fruity hop aroma. Soapy biscuit resin fruit hop flavour. Bitter sweet hoppy aftertaste. A new hop and a good one.

Bottle from Erzbierschof - Hazy amber color with a beautiful tan head fully lasting and beautiful lacing - Aroma is malty, caramel, orange and mandarins - Flavor of orange and malt - Medium body, light/medium bitterness, sweet, sweet malt and orange finish - Good but too sweet and not amazing

glennmastrange (2445) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 30, 2014
Bottle. Moderate aromas all around, with cereal and nutty for the malt, orange for the hops, dough for the yeast, with background notes of date, toffee and nutmeg. Head is small to average in size, fizzy/frothy light beige with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is muddy medium brown. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. Way different then their other single hop IPAs. Not sure the difference is from hop variety or the length of time it sat in the bottle.
