This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Very cloudy bronzy brew with a head of tan head of small to medium bubbles. Nose is strong with the slightly pine scent of hops. Taste is dry initially with a good hit of hops. They start with more pine but resolve to almost a white pepper on the finish. Body is lively. Finish is a touch of bitters. Quite an interesting beer.

Drank side by side with the 19 other variants of the serie. I would like to note up front that - since these beer’s are no longer in production, they were not fresh. this rating should thus be viewed with that in mind, and can shed a light on the ’ageing’ differences between the variants. They were probably better fresh... Pours rather clear, dark amber, small white foam. Smell is weird, smells like a product for the washing machine. not that the scent is BAD, it’s just not what you’d want in a beer. Taste is very bitter, with a sweet back. Not very aromatic, but in the back I do get some fruits. Very nice combo

brownish pour and small white head. Malty aroma, caramel, bit of hops pine. Flavor follows with big caramel malt notes, candy brown sugar, not much hop presence. Interesting

As goes for all the Hop Series beers I’ve tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Nice orange color with big head (darkness varied a bit). Fresh and bitter. Tangy. Roses, flowery. Taste is bittersweet, but bitterness is big andl lingering!

Bottle @ home. Pours with a dark orange clear colour, big long lasting white frothy head. Aroma is medium malty, medium hoppy, with notes of resin, earth, herbs and additional notes of citrus. Medium to heavy bitter, slightly sweet. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation.

"1st of 9 hop series beers sampled on 9-2-11, and remained a favorite. earthy, with a slight mineral flavor, herbal aroma and flavor that stood up well. i was surprised by this one."

Bottled, and probably quite old. Hazy amber color. Decent head, mediocre retetion. Quite fruity with a clear bitterness through.

Pours dark and murky, expected more aroma. Taste is nothing special, but a bitter aftertaste refreshes you and then leaves you with a dry bang!

Bottle to taster Grapefruit, spruce, grapes, and resin. It’s a clear amber with lots of effervescence, and a frothy 2cm off white head with decent retention. Taste is fruity up front, with a strong grapefruit and bitter middle and bitter end with a slight syrupy sweetness. This is pretty good since it’s just a single hop.
