COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours copper with a 3 finger creamy beige head. Aroma is floral/woody with a sugar note. Med+ body with foamy/frothy carb. Flavor is floral/fruity, followed by wood, then suddenly a burst of sweet caramel, then something like citrus/pine kills the malt. Finishes like grapefruit rind. Amazing things happening in my mouth.

Bottle. A clear one, dark golden in color and with a dense, creamy, off-white fingerthick head. Lacings. Fruity, grassy and citrusy nose with a sugary touch and something berry-ish. Smooth, full-bodied and nicely carbonated with a fine bitterness. Not intensly bitter even though it’s quite high on the IBU level. A quite nice one, but nothing extraordinary in any way. 110908

Sampled on 9/2/2011. This India Pale ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is malt, cereal, fruity, sweet, piney and citrusy. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are cereal, fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity, citrusy and piney. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

I took one sniff and I was all ready to go forth with a livid screed about how I hate Mikkeller for not dating their bottles, how I hate the retailer I bought this from for leaving it on the shelf for god knows how long, and how I hate myself for buying yet another faded Mikkeller beer despite my previous two hatreds. But looking at some other reviews, it seems like a distinct possibility that this particular hop is kinda faded to begin with. So never mind all that hate stuff. Pours a pleasant copper color, clear with lively carbonation and a firm off-white head. Aroma is muted, with some apple notes, earthy hops, and dark grainy bread. Flavor is sweet with dark caramel notes -not the best malt profile to showcase hops -dry bread, aging floral qualities, bruised apple. Ok I’m back on board with being mad at Mikkeller. Urge to kill rising.

Round creamy and thick aroma. It have some spice and tropical fruits in the aroma, mostly pineapple. The taste and flavours are quite rich with a light sweetness. Some astringency in this one

2011-08-10. Crisp orange amber body with a small beige head. 3+ Pleasant flavour, modest orange citrus, mild resin with a light alcohol and something I can’t place. Melange of flavours. 7+ Citrus fades as the glass goes on a bit. Aroma is fairly mild, light alcohol, mild pale malt and hops. 6+ Average palate. Nice but a bit mild overall. All 19 in this hop series are shared with my husband, Anton. It’s hazy bronze with a huge, creamy head. Initially notes of pine, that vanishes after a few moments leaving mild notes of fruit and caramel. The flavour us sweet with a dry bitterness and notes of fruit, citrus and caramel – as the aroma not very powerful, more bitter, and the finish is bone dry.
