This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Bottle 0,33L Hazy, dark copper colour with large, frothy, off-white, long lasting head. Very hoppy fruity aroma, also honey, plum jam and alcohol note. Teoretical IBU is 94, but so is practical, I think. Taste starts heavy bitter and finish harsh bitter with long lasting aftertaste. Medium body, dry texture, lively carbonation.

As goes for all the Hop Series beers I’ve tasted: the bottles were probably quite old, best before of April/May 2015, so some of the hop characteristics might have already gone away. Nice orange color with big head (darkness varied a bit). Sweet! Good sweet fruits in the taste. Very easily drinkable. Dangerous. Max’ favourite.

Pours a slightly hazy coppery color, topped with plentiful beige colored head that stays for a long time. Slightly fruity, some decent caramel notes and quite hoppy, but stinky. Taste starts more on the sweet side, followed by some herbal bitterness. Quite lasting aftertaste. Not bad, but not that nice either.

fruity floral aroma is the forte, but the flavor comes off a little more on the boring side. good balance with the carmel malts, but not enough going on to stand out. 94 ibu."

Good and still relatively strong. Citrus and spiced hop aroma. Burnt orange color with a good head. Slightly full and with good weight. Carbonation was still strong. Harsh bitterness up front that subsided a little. Slightly sour and sweet malt flavors to finish. Enjoyed it.

Very good beer. Amber in color with a nice creamy head with a little yellow in it. Aroma is caramel and citrus. Caramel and floral flavors are most noted. Also some citrus and pineapple sneak in.

Aged IPA’s single hop comparing together with and thnx to ( all bottles ) Karin . Since all these are to old, I will judge more gentle here . They all held up pretty well , for their age , and even though I prefer fresh WAY more , they were not too bad at all , to be honoust ! Pours dark amber / almost brown . fast fading, small white head . No smell at all . Taste is straight bitter . No complexity, no other tastes . no aftertaste, but a bit of dusty bitterness .

A little more poignant than cluster but bravo has still been the best. Some citrus and peel here. Barley malt a little light tasting here. Medium bitter finish. All of this are very difficult to tell apart. Pours brownish orange with food head and lacing. Bottle on sale at Schneider’s.

Mikkeller’s single hop brew is a fantastic way to familiarise with different varieties. First hop tasted and double thumbs up for this beer. Appearance: orange pale . thick persistent brown head. Aromas: caramel. yeast. slightly citrusy. pine. taste: slightly bitter with long bitter after taste. good balance between sweetness and bitterns.
