3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 marcus (5010) - Sacramento, California, USA - FEB 3, 2012
Bottle from Ledgers Liquors. Pours orange copper with a three finger beige head and a light citrus aroma. There is a hearty caramel malt flavor with a musty sticky bitter hop finish. Not my favorite in this series.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Palme (2252) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 1, 2012
0.33l bottle from Kihoskh, Copenhagen shared with ClubGonzo and the rest of Bergen Tasting Crew. The Nugget is a hazy orange beer with a light creamy and bubbly off-white head. Aroma is light stingy, notes of pine, some strawberries and hints of thin caramel. Oily to watery mouthfeeling, average to soft carbonation and it’s medium-bodied. Tastes quite bitter from the start. Notes of grass, perhaps some herbal tones?, ends mildly bitter with a lasting bitter aftertaste. Nice enough, but perhaps a bit blend.

Another very good beer from this series. Pours cloudy with a copper tint. Very good example of a quaility IPA, shame they retired the series.

3rd of the MIkkeller single hop series that I’ve tried. Pours a cloudy, honey colored IPA with frothy head. Strongly hoppy aroma with spruce predominant with perhaps a very faint hint of banana. Very bitter throughout entire experience, lingering on the palate. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Good beer. Not a hope varietal I would normally enjoy alone, but can be appreciated for the added bitterness it can contribute to a good beer.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 jmohno (831) - Iowa, USA - NOV 29, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 20, 2011 Orange light brownish color, hazy, floaties, thick low creamy head, tastes richly as it looks.
Full mouthfeel.
Aroma is:
Somewhat low( whats the bottleing date?,hmm nobody knows- how we suppose to analyze these not knowing a freshness date on an ipa?Not caring for the no bottleing date. ANYWAY
There is that typical pastry like breadiness with the malt, as far as hops it seems to be pretty subtle mild earth, herbal, and spice maybe some hints of fruit- pine, but maybe if i knew how fresh this was id be able to tell if its suppose to be sublte or intense so im going to assume nugget hops are subtle in aroma.
Flavor of this is really good im going to assume but already know this is a good malt based beer, but the hops seem to be complimenting this malt well, it seems pretty well rounded maybe refined and the bittering just pairs with this malt sweetness perfectly. I would say its a well-rounded kind of bitterness,im picking up herbal spice ripe fruit sweet carmel malt vanilla.Just a great bittering finish. Then again it kind of resinates in your mouth and lingers
Overall in terms of hop flavor in general, i would say herbal/hoppy almost robust but grassy smooth is this hops flavor. Im a sucker for the far ends of sweet and spice though.I think herbal and sweet malt are polar opposites that compliment each other well.
