This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Picked a few bottles form Mikkeller, tried the Hop Series. This one is also very good. Pours with a big head but is a excellent IPA

Aroma: spices (pepper), earthiness, and some pine. A bit odd considering the citrus power of Simcoe hops, but the age may be a factor in this. Appearance: dark redish-orange. Reminds me of the color of 70s carpet or upholstery. Moderate head retention leaves thin wisps of bubbles across the surface. Taste: caramel malt and piney hops give way to some citrus before mild alcohol finishes the show. Palate: medium bodied. medium-high carbonation. Overall: Best of the single hop series I’ve had so far, but I wish I had it fresher.

A great showcase for the Simcoe hop. What a great idea this series is. Orange citrus in the aroma, in the taste. A bit puckering, quite the IPA.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours orange copper with a modest beige head and a harsh fruity aroma. There is a smooth caramel malt flavor that transitions smoothly fto moderate piney bitterness. This combination works well.

Medium sweet flavor of citrus fruit, caramel and piney notes. Medium bodied, creamy to oily texture and average carbonation. More dry and quite bitter finish. A nice brew.

330mL bottle generously sent across the pond by stobbe74. The bottle pours copper with gold edges and a bit hazy when the yeasty sediment is involved. The hop laden liquid supports a near white sort of head. The aroma is a mix of citrus, spicy and mild earthy hop like notes. The taste is spicy goodness flowing into resiny hops, citrus and a bit of floral too. Nice and bitter with chewy hop goodness.
