This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Beautiful amber color, just hazy; medium sized compact head. The first impression with the aroma is for apricot and other yellow fruits; then it turns into hints of passion fruit and elderflowers. Very good toffee flavor, balanced, smooth, with minimal residual sweetness, and very well complemented by a fruity hopping; long final, quite powerful, with pleasant resins and bitter oranges. The strong toffee flavor steals some attention from the hop, but overall the blend is perfectly achieved.

Hazy amber color (it seems a shade darker and less hazy than the Amarillo and Cascade); medium sized creamy head. The aroma is quite strong, with fruity hop (apricot) but mostly with a earthy character of manure; inviting. The toffee flavor is more developed than in the Amarillo, probably helped by the hop as well; very strong bitterness, with a lot of resins and bitter orange oils; the hopping is less "complex" than in the Amarillo, but the blend is better achieved. Very strong final. Excellent.

Bottle from Khioskh, Copenhagen, shared with BBGTC. Dark hazy orange, big creamy off-white head. Nose is dry grass, herbs, peaches and hints of cat pee. Taste is peaches, bitter grass, hints of wet leaves and herbs. Nice enough, although I expected more from what I’ve always believed to be one of my favorite American hops. Guess you need more than one hop to really take off with an IPA.

0.33l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. Pors a hazy orang-ish body with a medium sized but fading bubbly and sidesticking off-white head. The aroma is quite hoppy and fruity, lots of pine cones, some peachy fruits and hints of cat pee. Average soft oily. Nice and really fruity flavors. Tons of peach and pineapple, quite grassy with caramel-hints. Good lasting hoppy finish that last for quite a while. Simcoe; you never let me down. 30.01.2012

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2012 Bottle@Præstemosen. Slight haze copper medium body. Fresh red grapefruite flavours. Low bitter finish. Seventh in a row of the Mikkellers series. Best so far. Retasted one year after. It has lost a lot of its flavour.

Bottle. Pours with a clear orange to amber hued body with a thick, off-white head. Good lace with pretty decent retention as well (same appearance descriptor for all of the beers in this series). Aromas are candied christmas fruit, evergreen, pineapple and tropical fruit. Flavors are papaya, floral, fruity, dank and pine. Medium bubbles, clean bitterness, really dry. One of my favorites in this series.
