4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a clear golden with a lacing off-white head. Lovely, amazing coconut aroma - Sorachi Ace is so distinct. Medium body, some fruitiness but the amazingly complex Sorachi Ace overpowers everything and leaves a tough biterness. I can’t help it, but I’m totally in love with this hop. 040511

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2012
2012-05-14, draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 8-5-7-3-15=38
Hazy amber color, creamy head. Nice Sorachi Ace aroma, more delicate than usual, just a bit soapy and lemony, not pungent; wait some time, because it develops an intriguing floral edge along with the fruits (8 to 9 points). The body seems slimmer than when had it from the bottle, with strong caramel flavor and a touch of darker (but not burnt) malts, that give a bit more dryness in the end; luckily the roasted malts help hiding the typical soap character of Sorachi Ace; there is a light lemony touch, and a lot of hop resins.
Too much caramel for a Single Hop, but a very pleasant beer indeed.

Amber color, hazy; medium sized creamy head. The aroma is initially cheesy; a bit flowery, sweat, maybe fruity. Good caramel flavor, with toffee accent, not too dry (sweeter than earlier Single Hop versions?); good bitterness, but quite a chaos of resins and ripe fruits, not the freshness I would expect from Sorachi Ace; some grapefruit indeed is there. Long final. Good but below expectations, almost unfresh (it’s probably ~3 months old).
