4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 grunx (367) - - JUN 28, 2011
De moment una de les Single Hop de Mikkeller que he trobat més interessants, sobretot en nas: Citrics amargs, fusta, vainilla, fum... Molt recomenable.

Tap at Local Option pours pale amber and extremely heady with unreal retention. Seriously, the head did not noticeably come down for over two minutes. Aroma is herbal and woody. Tastes like it’s barrel aged (but it isn’t), buttery, herbal, caramelly, and dry. Body is medium heavy with soft carbonation and a buttery herbal finish. Incredible. Sorachi Ace is really something special! Wish this brew was both readily available and fairly priced, but I have no qualms about paying for greatness such as this.

Very good beer. Poured at a good temperature with a large, foamy, frothy, fluffy, off-white head that lasts a long time and lots of lace. Color is a clear dark amber with some bubble trails. Aroma is at first hops, then caramel, malt and hop, yeast, grain. Flavor’s like nose, carbonic tang, sweet, and bitter all very well balanced and working together. Can’t really tell what distinguishes this hop variety. Body and carbonation are excellent. Finish is very long and goes from bitter to a slight bittersweet with a little alcohol warmth.

bottle@home: copper/amber colour with small but persistent off-white head, smell is absolutely, utterly amazing, blue cheese & flowers, taste is very unusual but also sparked my memory since I have drank a beer with this amazing hop not that long ago and now I can pinpoint it, taste is earthly, fruity, hard cheese, melted plastic, autumn leaves, hint of grapefruit peel, & touch of pungent, lasting bitterness that coats the mouth, medium body & slightly dry finish

Part of a third flight of five out of nineteen 4 days test. Very good dense, very yellow head, hazed copper-amber beer. Liqueurish, alcohol (!?), cypress, citrus aromas. Cheesy hops, cypress returning as flavour, blue running cheese, rich flavours with a finish hinting at orangezeste. Very complex palate, with all the above flavours vying and subtely supplanting each other at turns. Wow - another discovery. This is THE hop for impressive, complex layered barley wines, IMO.

330mL bottle generously sent across the pond by stobbe74. The bottle pours copper with gold edges and a bit hazy when the yeasty sediment is involved. The hop laden liquid supports a near white sort of head. The aroma has big notes of spicy hops, herbal like grass clippings and dusty black pepper too, wow! This has a nice big bold brash aroma and I wasn’t expecting the light black pepperiness. It works very well. The taste is bold too with big herbal notes, spicy hops, resiny bitter grass clippings and some black pepper. This is straight up weird, odd and perfectly yummy.

Bottle. Okay, this beer kicks ass, probably the best use of sorachi ace I’ve seen yet. This is one that I’m glad was brewed at de proof instead of brewdog. Pours an almost clear orange with a frothy white head. Great fragrant aroma, lemony, woody, lovely ’oak’-like aroma, biscuity, bit floral/perfumey. Flavor follows, so interesting, dry and woody, faintly lemony and floral, bitterness is lightly chalky, clean finish. Could almost give it a 5 on app but closer to a 5 on palate, fine tingly tightly packed carbonation, the dryness is perfect, really just a fantastic beer here.
