This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

Bottle from Beer Cartel. Murky dark orange/red, strong pineapple and tropical fruit characters, slight yeasty notes, slightly grainy, caramel malt, quite bitter but well balanced. Different, but very good.

Pours a very unique, opaque mahogany with a huge 3 finger, off white head that lingers around. Not much lacing and almost no carbonation. The nose is very hoppy with a surprisingly high amount of yeast and malt. Tropical fruits are very much present here with a slight touch of caramel. The mouth is very bitter, but not an overpowering bitter. The hops in this series are definitely citrus hops. A lot of grapefruit and lemon. There is a malt presence, but itís subtle. Not a huge beer, but a slow sipper none the less. After this beer warmed up, it took on a lot of barleywine characteristics. Very malty and yeasty with a lot of dark fruits.

On tap at Independent Ale House. Aromas of sweet Malta, tropical fruit including pineapple, and little bit of bread and caramel. Flavors of strong hop bitterness, sweet bready malts, tropical fruit, and caramel. Now that I am homebrewing I find these beers more interesting, but would not say this OA great stand alone IPA. Might be an interesting hop for a barley wine.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a deep amber colour with a large frothy white head. Aroma is rather strong and pungent with notes of grapefruit, peach and some wet grass. Flavour is full-on bitter with floral hops, grapefruit, peach, pine and strong pineapple sweetness. Medium bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long, fruity, lingering bitter and dry finish. Much stronger than the normal Galena and has a lot more character, although this seems to be a fresh bottle. The normal Galena one wasnít as fresh.

Yes! Big pineapple beer. Having this on the back of a disappointing lager! The aroma hits the nose right after cracking the top. Big deep fruit hit. Muddy gold pour with big foaming head that fades slow like. Massive pineapple on the nose, as well as a healthy dose of funk. A little frothy in the mouth though. Damn shame as itís nectar.

draught@Erzbierschof - hazy reddishamber beer with a persistent beige foam; nice lace; hoppy aroma of pine needles, caramel and earth; a good malt backbone, rounded and tasty; fair and long lasting bitterness; hoppy aftertaste of spices, caramel and herbs; long lasting - very nice

Bottle shared at home - cheers Steven! Pours a hazy orange with a decent white head. Aromas are muted, some caramel, some dark fruits. and earthiness. Some of those fruits turn into blackcurrants when tasting. Finishes thin, and a bit disappointing.

Ipa ambrata. Il luppolo super galena si fa sentire. E rende la birra profumata e molto amara ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass dark-copper coloured, nice head. Soapy-grasy aroma. Starts dry-grasy, more and more soapy, quite moldy.FInish dry and unbalanced. Not my favourite of this series.
