COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is a part of a Single Hop IPA series by Mikkeller. We created this series to showcase hop varieties on their own. This gives the consumer the possibility of smelling and tasting the unique characteristics of each variety and hopefully helping to educate people about the wonderful world of hops. For each beer, the single hop variety was used in the same weight for bittering, aroma and flavor and for dry hopping. All 19 varieties of single hop beers in this series were brewed the same week and with malts from the same batches and the same yeast and fermentation temperatures. This is done to better compare the characteristics of the different hop varieties.

I was looking forward to Trying Mikkeler, since it gets so many praises of being good and innovative brewer. I was excited to find It’s Hop Series at a reasonable price. Unfortunately my anticipation and excitement was not matched by high standards that everyone praises Mikkeller to live by. Everyone in supply chain is to blame… Mikkeller does not have production dates, Distributor Trying to sell the product no matter what, Binny’s not having balls to stand up to its supplier and let them know that it is out of date and no good. I was pissed… All of them were old and stale, therefore complete waste of time and money. Every time I come across bad batch I swear to stop buying anything that has no dates… I just might do that, since there are plenty of other choices… Going Back to Mikkeller Hop Series… All of them Poured A Shade Lighter Or A Shade Darker of Muddy Brown. All of them Had Smaller or Larger Floaters. Huge Head, Decent Lacing. Earthy, Stale Hops Aroma. Tasted pretty much the same: Earthy, Malt, Stale Hops. Moderate Bitter Finish… Pass It Unless You Know It Is Fresh…

Glowing body, clean and with large head. Dark fruit, toast, spruce, straightforward aroma. Drinkable. Juicy bitterness, better than expected. Nice hop but straightforward taste profile. (33cl bottle from Dranken Geers)

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a hazy orange beer with sweet citrus fruit and orange blossom flavours, toffee notes and more citrus on the sweet finish.

Good bitter hops with a piney, earthy and floral taste. A little sweet from the malt too, as are the others in this series, but maybe the lower citrus content in the hops allows the sweetness to come through more in this one. As always, smooth and very well balanced.

This one is probably the harshest of the single hop IPAs from Mikkeller. Copper pour, aromas of earthy, pine hops and some floral hops as well. Flavor is sticky resinous pine and earthy hops. Bitter finish. Not as well balanced as the others but not a bad beer.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2016 9/16/2013 draft @ delirium pours amber, fuzzy good white head, smells pretty grainy/hoppy taste is sugary , bitter, sweet, somewhat floral . good ! Edit 4/15/2016 - Drank side by side with the 19 other variants of the serie. I would like to note up front that - since these beer’s are no longer in production, they were not fresh. this rating should thus be viewed with that in mind, and can shed a light on the ’ageing’ differences between the variants. They were probably better fresh... Pours rather clear, dark amber, small white foam. Smell is very thick, but not intense. Taste is bitter, some pine - more than the cluster variant - and a mild orange-character. Aromatic, almost yeasty ending. Original score of 3.7 will be kept since it was fresh than, but it’s fun to see how I rated this one 3.6 at my tasting. not too far off !

Bottle from The Grove, Huddersfield. Lumpy, dark amber. Thick, off white head. Aroma is heady sweet malt, black currant too. Quite fusty and sickly. Palate is sickly too. Long clacky finish. Not good.

KyotoLefty (9114) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 13, 2013
Draught at Delirium Brussels. Deep, cloudy orange with a fine, high head. Hoppy nsoe, grass, peaches, orange, earth. A bit dirty. Sweet malt in the back. Very fruity flavor, orange, peach, earth, hay, bread. Sweet and jammy. Rich body. This hop is a bit bland, not my favorite.
