Small bottle. Cloudy golden amber body with a firm rocky head. Aroma and taste are similar to many other Mikkeller IPAs so itís hardly offering anything new. The ginger in it must be masked by the hop bitterness because I canít taste any. And pine needles taste like hops anyway, donít they? Not bad for an IPA but it does not taste like Christmas to me.

Aromatic and Substantive hoppiness buffered by spice, ginger. Bitterness from pine needles. Xmas tasted-out, and so drinkability is just Ok. Still a decent and complex beer. Above average mouthfeel. Foamy head and lace.

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2014 Rerate, 750 ml capped bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Golden colour, only slightly hazy. Fluffy white head. Strong hoppy aroma, notes of grapefruit, spruce tips and pine needles. Distinctly hoppy flavour, medium sweet, with strong notes of pine needles. Could hardly identify the ginger if i didnít know it was there. Original rating: Shared bottle at local tasting. Cloudy golden colour. Very nice aroma of fruity hops and pine needles. Hoppy flavour with fruity and piney notes, the bitterness seems just right. The ginger is fairly subdued.

[keg at the Hanging Bat, Edinburgh] Hazy deep golden amber pour, large white head. Pretty huge resinous wallop on the nose, even with the cold serve. As it warms, the aroma becomes more citrus-based, but doesnít diminish. Tastewise, unsurprisingly extremely hoppy Ė piney at first, but becoming floral and sweeter the more you go on. Orange and some passion fruit in there as well. I guess the pineyness relates to the pine needles, but I confess to not getting much ginger [14122012]

Keg at North Bar, Leeds. Pours a hazy amber, finger of head. Aroma is hoppy citrus, some pine spice, bready notes. Taste is similar - bitter hippy citrus up front with pine/tropical fruit notes, giving way to a bready sweetness. Full body, fairly long sweet (not very bitter) finish, and a little bit of alcohol heat once its inside you. A good one (even though it doesnít taste.particularly Christmassy).

Nice bitter grapefruit up front, turning very sweet afterward with a big punch from the pine at the end. As it warms the pine is very strong in the aftertaste but is tempered a bit by the sweetness. Interesting transition from bitter to sweet to bitter again. Not as much ginger as in the nose, just a hint in the aftertaste.

Pours amber with a small head. Nose shows heavy caramel and resinous hops. Pine underneath. Very malty aroma. Pretty malty flavours too. More pine and resin, but lots of sweet clean malt balancing things out. Assertive bitterness in the finish but the malt wins out.

The pour is a clear golden color with a full, fluffy, creamy, off-white head which is mostly lasting and leaves scattered, drippy lace. The nose is pleasant with lots of pine resins, floral, herbal, light ginger, some pink grapefruit, and gooseberries. The flavor is very similar with lots of fruit (gooseberries, pink grapefruit), still quite resinous, piney, very faint ginger, and herbal underneath. The palate is lively, light to medium, and oily/sticky. The finish is mostly bitter, gooseberries, pine resins, and herbal. I actually liked this quite a bit; the intense fruit was pleasant for me, and the underlying herbal was a nice touch. The pine addition is an obvious complementary piece but the subtle ginger worked well in this, despite my skepticism. Just another great beer from Mikkeller.

Pine, grapefruit and fruit aroma. Nice golden color. Medium head. Light sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation. Good grapefruit bitter finish.
