3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning (2011 issue, as Happy Lovin’ , not Hoppy, and with mistelten (mistletoe) iso pine needles). Golden to orange color, hazy. Big white head, slowly receding leaving lots of lace. Aroma’s: fresh hops, a bit herbal, citrus, resin, some sweet fruit once in the mouth. Fairly bitter flavor with a bit of malty sweetness, a bit herbal as well. Pretty high carbonation, so doesn’t feel very heavy. Finishes very bitter, but not very harsh and only slightly dry.

330ml bottle brought back home from Ølbutikken in Copenhagen. Pours a hazy, golden body covered by a large, white head with a solid foam stand and great amount of spotty lacing to the glass. Lovely aroma of fruity hops and semi-sweet malts. Diversity of citrus hops in flavour including oranges, peaches and mild grapefruit shells, notes of ginger, too. Mid-dry, smooth and soft bitter tail with satisfying length. Enjoying and very refreshing (rating no.4600) (Tromsø, 30.12.2011).

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, thanks JCB. Hazy orange with a thin white head. Dusty, earth, sage, resin, caramelized sugar, apricot, lemon, peach. Quite bitter, much more than I’m used to in Mikkeller’s IPA’s in the USA. Some mild cereal-like grain makes itself present beneath the heavy bitterness along with some caramel sweetness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home on xmas eve, from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Ho ho bastard ho. Hazy amber pour with a generous dissipating white head.
Nose showed some juicy citrus and fragrant hop in tandem with yeast and vague spice notes. Flavour wise, there was again some good hop presence, alongside some caramel malts, with notes of orange, pine and slight spice. Great balance overall. Dried out towards the finish. Maybe not especially christmassy, but that could well be to its credit. Could quite happily drink this any day of the year.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2011 Golden bodied, big foamy white head with loads of lacing. Citrus, grapefruit - clearly focussed on the fresh hops and crisp flavour. Not anything like how most Christmas beers are. Some wheat and barnyard too. Smooth body, perfect for an IPA. Light bitter with lots of complexness while still being drinkable and fresh. I suppose the ?happy lovin? is because of the warming feeling you get, together with how fast you?d get drunk while chugging these is great quantities - something I have no objections to. Loads and loads of flavour, complex but accessible bitter taste. Almost perfect IPA. But how was this Christmas again? (33cl bottle)
