UPDATED: OCT 30, 2012 Bottle. Pours orange, super hazy, with creamy white head. Notes of wet forrest, burned caramel, the nose sticky thing in ginger, some cooked vegetables, red grape and orange cest. Very fruity, complex and refreshing. The spices and the high abv adds a warming christmasy feel.

33 cl. bottle poured in to a tulip. Lovely, slightly hazy copper-orange colour with a small white head. Aroma with lots of hops: Citrus, grapefruit, pines and floral notes. Malts are biscuits-style. Taste is medium bitter. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation. Finishes bitter and spicy with ginger and citrus fruit. Nice IPA, the ginger is a good addition.

Lovely beer. Pours with a haze. Lots of aromatics on the nose. The taste is like an IPA, but then you get the hit of ginger which lasts a long time. Really nice and smooth. Great.

THOUGHTS: Nice balance. Good transition. Not Christmasy at all, but very good. There was just enough ginger to make it more interesting, but if I didnít know it was in there, I probably would have just thought the slight burn was from the alcohol because there was more heat than actual flavor. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured either light, orangey amber or dark, golden yellow with a large, sort of creamy, slightly off-white head that mostly but very slowly diminished leaving excellent lacing. The aroma had light caramel; moderate to heavy pine apricot and tropical fruit hops; light to moderate resin hops; honey and hints of ginger. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and light to moderately bitter; while the finish was light to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. There was caramel, honey, ginger, citrus hops, pine hops, pine, resin hops, pine, apricot and tropical fruit hops. The light to medium body was dry with fairly soft carbonation and a slightly metallic finish.

A-- Poured a hazy straw orange color. Big, fluffy, one finger of white head. Head fades pretty quickly leaving a solid looking ring of soapy lacing. Looks a bit better on swirling. S-- Mostly citrus. Faint at start but builds well. Orange, grapefruit, and lemon. Very little malt backbone detected. T-- Lots of grapefruit and orange. Quite pungent. Not a lot of sweetness in this at all. M-- Started of dry and became quite oily. Little bit sweeter in the feel. Well balanced beer though more hop forward . Lower carbonation and somewhat heavy feel. O-- To me more of an IPA than a DIPA. Good beer either way. Nose is not that aromatic but it makes up for it in the taste and feel. Good Christmas seasonal. Perfect for this climate and a Christmas at the beach.

A steady pour produces a three finger thick, pale tan colored head in my Lost Abbey Teku glass. The beer has a pale amber color that shows a pale-orange tinged, bright gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of pine needles, lychee, woody notes, tangelo zest, some Meyer Lemon, as well as a backdrop of toasted pale malt, soda cracker notes, and a hint of pale malt sweetness (though only a hint). The aroma gets much more woody and spicy as it warms up significantly.

The beer has a sweetness to the flavor that is accentuated by the fruity hops, it finishes spicy and dry from the alcohol, the ginger, and some woody / pine notes. At times the woody notes and pine wood character becomes quite noticeable in the finish. Fairly dry, the woody notes certainly accentuate this, especially in the long finish, the beer is also light and quaffable. For the most part the spice and wood notes meld in quite well with the hop character, in fact I could be easily convinced, if I didnít know better, that this was simple a pine / woody focused IPA.

The nose is a bit less vibrantly hoppy than I would prefer in an IPA, but this isnít strictly an IPA, it is still quite nice though. This is a nice beer, it can seem a touch hot at times in the finish, and I wonder if the pine / ginger is accentuating the alcohol a bit more than it would if this beer did not include those ingredients. Still I am quite happy to be drinking this right now.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is full of lemons and oranges, with some biscuit malt and some perfume notes thrown in. The flavor is similar, with a lot of orange and lemon notes, as well as some biscuit malt to balance out the bitterness and keep it pretty low. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
