This spontaneous fermented beer has been aged in Hungarian oak barrels and appears with a light amber color with almost no head.

The aroma is huge and very vinous. A clear impression of oxidized apples is the first thing that hits you, which made us think of heavy old fashioned British apple ciders. The aroma also reveals the wooden notes from the barrels along with some burned toffee and spices like Star anise.

It has a very heavy acidic profile at first, one that quickly slides into a smooth kind of sweetness. We taste green apples, carambola and very young green grapes. It has a certain lactic acidic touch and a creamy dry finish that lasts forever and bares the green impressions through.

Some mild creamy blue cheese on roasted rye bread would work great due to both the lactic and acidity impressions in this beer.

Taste is nicely tart, mildly sweet apple, citrus, mild acidity and funk in the middle, wet wood finish, finishes clean. Light body. Well done geuze, enjoyable.

Hazy dark golden colored body, medium sized off-white head and soapy lacing. Woody with stonefruits, citrus, must and slight oxidation. A decent amount of bitterness lingers throughout. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation and moderate acidity and bitterness. With the oxidation I got, I am not sure how well this is going to develop with time.

375mL corked bottle Vintage 2014 BB 27/03/24!!! Subdued sort of pop on opening - slightly sad for an uncorking. Slightly hazy gold body, small white foam atop. Properly funky aroma; barnyard, sweaty horse, hay, overly ripe rockmelon, green apple, white wine vinegar, grapefruit rind, hard cheese, odd grassy/vegetally character. Light body, sharp but subtle carbonation, a touch watery prolonged somewhat by a bracing acidity. More of that funk on the body - so much on offer! Cheesy, sweaty, horsey, citrusy, overly ripe tropical fruity, vinous-y - acetic acid cuts through, some malic acidity brings that crisp apple character. Finishes surprisingly clean, very little bitterness. Intriguing stuff - up there with Lambics, but probably just a notch below in terms of texture. Nice though...

Bottle @ Pat’s. Cloudy golden-orange pour with a big white head. The nose is rather lemony. Some oak, leathery funk, and sort of a damp concrete and wood smell. Grassy and slightly tropical as well. There is a nice citrus quality to this and has sort of a lemonade tartness. Damp, earthy funk, some leather, and wood. Not bad, but like a lot of Mikkeller offerings, not sure I’d buy again due to price.
