Bottle, 06/09/2014. Pours burnished copper, small white head fades to an almost still surface. Aroma is earthy barnyard, mildly tart, overripe apricot, peach, citrus overtones, nicely funky, hay, touch of caramel. Taste is nicely tart, mildly sweet apple, citrus, mild acidity and funk in the middle, wet wood finish, finishes clean. Light body. Well done geuze, enjoyable.

375 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a hazy orange with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; semi-sweet and funky. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Enjoyable, but I’d take a Tilquin or 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze over this again, especially for the price.

375 ml bottle from The Beer Trappe. Nice orange color. Aroma is a bit wild with lemon. Taste is lemon and tart. Some dryness. A bit must. LIke apricot or something else coming out of the nose as it warms. Really nice overall.

375 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm - thanks again, Chris! 2014 vintage. Pours a cloudy gold color with a tiny ring for a head. Very clean - lemon, leather, oak, sawdust, grass - and eventually lactic funk. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a tart, acidic, funky mouthfeel. Honestly, pretty mellow compared to others in the style. Not bad.

Bottle shared by Travlr at the DC Summer Saison & Sour Tasting, 7/12/14. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium sized fizzy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of white grapes, funk, pepper, vegetal notes, lactic sour. The taste is tart lactic sourness, citrus, funk, pepper. Medium bodied.

Bottle courtesy of me, shared with the DC group. Hazy amber orange color, fluffy white head. Nice aroma of dusty and earthy straw, citrus. taste is softly sour dusty lemons, decent complexity. Works for me.

Mikkeller’s attempt at unblended lambic - something I always regard with a certain amount of suspicion if it doesn’t come from the Zenne valley region. Apparently concocted at the ’Proef’brouwerij with lambic yeast and matured on new Hungarian casks. Practically no head as it should be, only some loose, big bubbles on the edges of the glass. Deep orange blonde colour, hazy. Complex, very estery and therefore fruity aroma indeed reminiscent of a ’flat’ lambic, sherry, orange, sour cream, lemon juice, barnyard, hay, flowers. Classic lambic taste, green apple, sherry, citrus peel, no carbonation, sourish but in a more lactic, ’malse’ way not unlike Girardin young lambic but lacking a bit in complexity, more reminiscent of what e.g. Van Honsebrouck does (’imitation lambic’ so to speak, although that would be putting it a bit perhaps too disrespectful). Complex finish though, and all in all, a very believable attempt at one of the most elusive and idiomatic of beer styles.

Bottle from Mikkeller and Friends Bottle Shop, Copenhagen. Hazy amber pour. Orchard fruit and spice in the nose. Flavours of sweet spice, green apple and cinnamon. Very smooth. Nicely balanced. Good stuff.

12.7oz bottle, shared with phaleslu & dudeabide. Date on bottle reads 27/03/24 (10-year shelf life?). In the nose, there’s oak, lemon, some meaty aromas (red steak, sushi tuna). Flavor has a nice gueuzy funkiness that I wasn’t expecting, it’s not too sour or weird... Surprisingly drinkable. I was chatting with my friends, kept sipping without drinking. Kind of hazy darker orange amber color. Minimal off-white bubbly head. Awesome medium-plus body, smooth, kind of creamy lighter carbonation. Lightly slick texture. Surprisingly drinkable. Light to moderate sweet taste, good mild to moderate sour taste. Love this stuff. Great drinkable complex tasty gueuze. Kept raising the score as I went. Could have happily chiefed the bottle myself. Might have gone higher, if I had more liquid to contemplate... Gets tantalizingly better as I went.

No head left. Orange-ochre beer. Brett, lemon, wood, old barriques. Sour, in the true malse way, even some hints at maltsweetness. Woody, lipsmacking acidity, lactic and lemony. Dry, dry-out effet, long lasting flavours. Very good West-Flemish gueuze (hence h... for the initiated).
