| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 8, 2007 Updated: Jul 9, 2007Bottle from Kxkeller. Thanks Kristian. Pours a muddy dark amber red with a beige creamy head. Good aroma of floral hops, caramal, fruity yeast esters- sort of like that wonderfull smell coming from the airlock of fermenting wort. Full rounded medium body with soft carbonation and earthy texture. Initial flavor caramel, plums, and green grapes that quickly transitions to vineous and vanilla middle. Fairly sweet, but not overdone. Sharp bitter and subtle boozy finish, and my senses even hint at a bit of smoke or peat, even though I don’t think it’s in the beer. This is very nice beer, and probably one of the best American Strong Ales that I have had so far. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Pours a murky, yellowish-brown color; off-white head with patchy lacing. Dense, floral and dried red fruit aroma; vinous and slightly tart. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: dense, dried red fruits and candy sugar; slightly vinous and chewy; pleasant raspberry and lightly tart core; great stuff. Lengthy finish, showing candy sugar and dried fruits. CharlesDarwin (1873), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA

Aroma stings forth with resiny roots a destruction of caramel apple, flames of solvent and soap. Flavor starts biting and harsh, ringing with Mr. Clean and Pine Sol. Loads of condensed sweet sugar and jolly ranchers. Hot. House yeast perks up with a dirty pediococcus twang, really fouling the beer. Thyme and compost. Settles after fuming, but still speaks of floor-licking sterno. In the middle a real sense of having a Cascade heavy American strongale compacted and played with the volume way down. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 2, 2007 (Thanks to Papsoe) Bottle. Cloudy dark amber colour with a great and lovely creamy and stable head. Lovely aroma of hops, with notes of citrus and caramel-tones. Very wonderful flavour of hops, hops and more hops, hints of caramel and ends up bitter and with a great warming feeling from the alcohol. Papsoe (15178), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 22, 2007 (Bottle 33 cl) Pours a hazy, orangey brown with a dense, beige head leaving laces. Distinct, leathery hop aroma - Simcoe? Quite full-bodied with a solid and sweetish malt profile - caramel. Lots of fruit and distinct accents of pine and citrus from the aroma hops. Some bitterness. Yummy. 090407 Grovlam (3881), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2007 Updated: Mar 6, 2007Bottle and my #300. Thanks for sharing this one Mikkel. And I must say, you have done it again, what a wonderful beer this is. Appearance of head was almost creamy like and off-white that mostly lasted. Body was very muddy and thick particles were in the glass. (Evident in the bottom of the glass). Colour was light brownish and again with that muddy look to it. Aroma was quit impressive with first thoughts of a very hoppy American Strong Ale. First note that hits the nose is a bitter version of an elder flower. I had some extract of elder flower to compare it with. Blinding in is also notes of other flora hoppy (cascade and pine) notes mixed in. Malty notes are also present with hints of toasted, molasses, caramel, rye bread and grain. Assisting in the experience is also hints of some dry fruit. What hits the mouth is somewhat unexpected, because it is not as bitter as expected from the first sniff. The beer appeared much more balanced between the bitter and sweet flavours then expected. Also other notes are present in mouthfeel, like liquorice, light smoked and burned candies notes. Flavour is quit bitter with enough of sweet notes to perfectly balance the beer. Again surprisingly the texture is somewhat oily and light alcohol, but some dryness can also be felt. Actually quit bizarre as that shouldn’t be possible. Maybe it is because the finish is more dry like while the mouthfeel is more oily like. Finish is reasonable long, and again left behind the scent of elder flower, molasses and burned candies bitterness. We are still looking for the first 2007 Mikkeller experience and I for one simply can’t wait!
