4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In short: A bretty-funky and hoppy-citrusy golden ale. Excellent if you like the concept.
How: Bottle 750ml, corked & caged, consumed a few months after purchase.
The look: Cloudy muddy dark peach color body topped by a large beige head that quickly dissipates to a ring of foam.
In long: Nose is big dirty barnyard-bretty and very citrusy-hoppy. Taste is as expected, funky barnyard brett and sharp citrusy hops blending together harmoniously. Big fluffy body with generous carbonation. There is some caramelized malts to be found here and there but they are buried by the funk and bitter hopping, and thatís totally fine by me. A bit abrasive in the finish with the brett adding coniferous edges over the grapefruity-citrusy bitterness. Not quite to the level of Mikkellerís first batch of US Alive (the batch sold in a corked bottle, before US Alive became what it is today) but still a pretty damn good take on the style. I would love to drink bottles like this all by myself but over the years my wife has become a lover of funky hoppy beers and she drinks from my bottles, so now Iím trying to find a way to fake my own death because I canít afford a divorce attorney.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a very effervescent yellow with a bubbly champagne white head that fades pretty quickly. The aroma has that very familiar Brett smell. Lemons, grass, and hay with a hint of IPA masked behind the Brett. Very interesting smell. The taste is dry and crisp and very carbonated. Thereís an IPA in there somewhere with those familiar citrus notes but itís again masked over by the Brett. Dry, chalky, grassy, barnyard, somewhat bitter aftertaste. Overall not my favorite style of beer but itís very interesting and Iíd probably have it again.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (batch 2, bottled Nov 2012).
Head is initially large, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy light to medium yellow, bottle conditioned.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit, flowers, herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (barnyard, horseblanket), with notes of lemon zest, band-aid, pepper, spearmint gum.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Very nice brew...clean and bright and enticing and well-balanced. Wish the hop character wasnít so resinous, but thereís so much other stuff going on itís easy to forgive (probably would rate it lower if it was fresh, as Iíd imagine the resin odor would be way stronger). Too damned expensive to ever buy again (Victory Helios is just as good and MUCH cheaper), but itís more proof that Mikkeller needs to abandon their De Proef contract...this and the Porter made at Amager are ample evidence that the reason most of their other exported beers are so disappointing is De Proefís fault.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had a while back. Looks and smells like a saison, tastes like a hoppy malt backed Euro IPA with bretts. Good stuff.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
It smells like a bandade with a gint of grape and malt. Its a cloudy yellowish color with a good head. Its a medium bodied brew that tastes like the smell of dehydrated urine and bandades. It is crisp but thats it. The aftertaste keeps commin back to haunt you. Not good. Wierd my rating is the worst i saw... Maybe i had a bad batch.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
750ml bottle from Good Spirits Co. dark amber brown, bottle cork exploded on opening, massive foamy head. Sour yeasty hop aroma. Wierd zesty lemon yeast & hop flavour. Sour aftertaste. Not a typical IPA, more a hybrid with a Belgian ale. Very disappointed with this bottle as it was expensive.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Beautiful bright orange with huge soapy tan head. Begins with a great aroma of fruity citrus notes and turns more towards barnyard Brett over time. Very dry reminds me of an Normandy cider. Great with cheese and hot weather

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml. bottle, batch #2 Nov/2012 PDT- Pours hazy straw golden with a two finger head that reduces fairly quickly. The aroma is resinous hops, sticky and yeasty, this is a hopped up farmhouse imperial saison with wonderful brett. The taste is yeasty, hoppy, but not as hop forward as the aroma led on, dry in the finish, alcohol after the swallow. The brett was there, would have been more prominent if itíd have sat for longer, but it is a balancing act with this type of beer, farmhouse IPA, you let the beer sit too long and the hops subside, you drink too young and the brett doesnít have a time to develop, this is around eight months old, and it tasted really good.
