Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of malt, hops, citrus, slight caramel, and slight resin. Poured amber/gold in color with a small to medium-sized creamy, dense, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, pine, light hop oil, and resin. Medium body. Oily, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Medium bitter, lightly sweet, malt hop, pine, resin finish is dry. 7%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at matt’s. Pours a hazy orange color with small head with sheets of full lacing. Inner glass is totally covered. Aromas of honey, grass, orange juice. Taste is a orange hop character with a nice bready and earthy malt backbone. Some other notes of grapefruit, honey, and toast. Not too bitter. Pretty good ipa.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft. Hazy apple juice body, small off-white head (much lighter in color than Against the Grain version). Aroma is medium sweet, lemon, bread, orange. Taste is medium sweet, lemon/grapefruit, some bread. Medium body, some resin. Tasted off, and not just due to the differences associated with the different versions.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber purchased at West Lakeview Liquors Chicago. Pours an amber/ orange with a huge fluffy white head (very pillowy), loads of lacing as well. Smells sweet, a little fruit hop and caramel. Tastes rather plainly bitter, a little dry as well. Still very good though.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Draft at CK. Rich caramel color with a small off-white head. Nose is big caramel and molasses, sweet citrus, and candied sugars. Too much malt, clearly old, with touches of oxidation. Mer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured clear copper color with a large frothy off-white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy resin hop aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and lively carbonation. Moderate to heavy smooth bitter flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. This a standout brew.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Mediocre at best here. Really malty and floral hops with a wierd bitterness. I dont really get it. Kind of like a British IPA without the complex malts. meh

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The pour is a hazy, orangey golden color with a moderate, pillowy, white head which settles to a very thin layer and leaves some drippy lace. The nose is full of white grapefruit, some tangerine, resinous pine, faint green hops, light florals, and some toasted biscuits. The flavor is similar but with less citrus fruit; grapefruit and tangerine peels, more resinous notes, more pine, toasted biscuits, and slight rustic. The palate is moderately full, nearly lively, drying, and slightly oily. The finish is rustic, piney, resinous, very bitter, drying, and some toasted biscuits somehow. This one was very nice for its style, lots of juicy citrus in the nose but drying and rustic as it moved towards the finish. Drank very nicely even with the nearly high bitterness and the slight green hop notes in the nose, mostly due to the palate. The subtle malt notes benefited the beer nicely to balance the bitterness and resinous notes. A nice change to the limitless IPA’s around today.
