Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proefbrouwerij in Lochristi, Belgium.

Itís Alive! is Mikkellers answer and tribute to the trappist beer Orval. Itís Alive is an easy-to-drink beer, with a lot of hops. The color is amber, the foam is high, white and dense. The potent Brettanomyces culture makes Itís Alive continue to develop in the bottle.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale and cara), light candy, hops (hallertauer and styrian goldings), yeast and brettanomyces.

Draught at ōrsted. Bright orange/coppercoloured. Thin white head, that disappeares rather quickly. The aroma hits you with hops and a boatload of citrus (mostly limes and grapefruit). Brett aromas of moist wood and some horsy aromas too. On the palate it is razorsharp! All of the above mentioned elements are there in the taste plus a hint of sage and just a touch of rosemary. Modest bitterness mingles with firm sourness in a very dry and refreshing finale, that just goes on and on. I could still taste it as I went home 30 minutes after drinking the last sip. If there is one thing that should be considered in developing the recipe for future brews, it would be that the alcoholcontent of 8% by vol. doesnít really add anything to the beer in terms of volume or complexity. I feel that the beer would probably be just as good at around 6% alcohol, but who knows? But once again, Iíve found a new current favourite beer, and once again itís from Mikkeller.

750ml bottle with expiry of 31/7/18. An amber beer with a medium sized stable white head and decent lace. Nose offers light Brett, straw, candied sugar, pale malts and blood oranges. Palate is deliciously refined and smooth with light bitter and sour flavours and a hay-like dry hop finish that refreshes. It is dangerously drinkable given the ABV. I would imagine that this gets even better with cellaring (as does Orval).

Draft, BD ShepBush. Pours slightly hazy burnished gold, thickish head recedes gently. Nose of Belgian spice, brett, noble hops, light caramel. Tastes pretty sweet light caramel and toffee, very gentle brett acidity, moderate bitter, moderate aromatic spicy woody hops, some funk. Medium body, dry finish. Pretty good, but a bit on the sweet side maybe, and would be better from the bottle. Think I preferred Arh Hvad.
