The beer pours a pretty reddish brown with a wonderful big head. The aroma has good notes of molasses and coffee. The flavor of the beer struck me at first as tea like which took me back to some of my first experiences with brown ale, there is no doubt a good hoppiness and a great mild coffee flavor. The beer just came off as brilliantly crafted and well rounded. Rciesla (3915), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours an amber brown body with a tan head. Roast y with hints of chocolate and nuts. Toast and very bitter on the finish with not much to balance the aggressive acrid bitter finish. Very hoppy brown ale. deyholla (786), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 17, 2009 I’ve had this one several times, and finally got around to rating it. Not my favourite Mikkeller product, but is a tasty brew. Pours dark brown with beige head. Roasty malts, toffee and chocolate in the nose. Taste has milt coffe and nuttiness with a good amount of hops. Ceebs25 (245), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 10, 2009 1 pint .9 fl oz bottle. I love the hop character right away but this is what i’d expect from Mikkeller. Very pleasant and well balanced aroma, with a good amount of almond nuttiness, roasty caramels, coffee, chocolate, pale malt, earth, spruce, and tangy citrus, with each aspect contributing a rather equal amount to the smell. Pretty looking pour as well, the head is large, rather thick, and creamy tan while the body looks much less dense but definitely not light, and honey brown in color. A great creamy feel on the body that would be otherwise fairly subdued without the strong hop presence that builds as the swallow goes forth. Much of the similar balance seen in the aroma comes forth in the taste as well. It starts out more rich roasted caramel nutty with some coffee, mixed cereal, and licorice, with a wave a bitterness coming in shorty after with more herbal citrus notes than the aroma, some acidic grapefruit that combines with the more roasted coffee/brown malts to make a very solid finish and linger. This really is a brown ale done right. Muggus69 (567), Sydney, Australia

Served chilled in a mug.
Pours a creamy inch of tan head atop a deep copper-brown body.
Rich nose packed full of roasted malts; burnt toffee, chocolate, coffee, touch of charcoal, with resiny hop citrus cutting through very nicely.
Good thick mouthfeel, smooth texture, carbonation quite soft. Lengthy agressive bitterness cuts through early on and hangs on, and on...
A good battle is fought between hop and malt balance. Plenty of chocolatey maltiness, a touch of liquorice, toffee and coffee in the mix, assaulted by grapefruit, unripe stonefruit, grass and resineous leafiness of the hops. Hugely drawn out finish, slight grain astrigency and assertive bitterness linger, begging for more liquid...luckily my glass ain’t empty yet!
A very full on American-style Brown ale. I’d argue that the malt and hop flavours are nice but a bit incoherent together, but I really enjoyed it!

Dark brown with beige head.
Good nose of sweet charamel and nuts. A little creamy. Good brown ale, but after smoke beer and beer geek brunch it is nothing special.
