3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Pours very dark brown with a frothy medium-sized head. Aroma has roasty maltiness with notes of chocolate but also plenty of fruity elements; the hop aroma is very noticeable. Taste is also surprisingly hoppy and the roastedness and sweetness are comparably low. Hops are nearly pushing malts out of the scene with the bitterness and the exotic fruity flavour. Couldn’t detect much chocolate or coffee in the taste. Medium body, slick. This is a strange brown ale, has more similarities with IPAs than other brown ales.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Apr. ’16. A 0.33 l bottle that poured a hazy brown body with medium sized head. Hoppy aroma, pungent with notable mildly roasted malt like cocoa and coffee.
Flavor was bitter, a lot of orange bitterness, a bit of caramel, roasted sugar, especially in the aftertaste. Quite simple but very effective, as these recent hoppy brown ales tend to be!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice fresh hoppy earth head with strong liquorice notes & torrefied underground.
Plain dark colour with light brown foam.
Taste is, as expected, sweet & strongly dominated by coffee & dark caramel with corresponding bitterness.
Successful beer but sweetness and liquorice make it hard to finish for my taste.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle at home - 2009 vintage. Pours dark brown, small head. Damn, nose is still full of roasted malts, coffee notes and caramel. Light body, little bitter and little sour, but flavours have well integrated; cold coffee and caramel.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Monumentális, örökké tartó hab, barna szín. Illata intenzív, karamell, pörkölt maláta és gyümölcsök (alma, megy), pici édeskés feketecsoki aromával kiegészülve. Pörkölt malátás, kissé savanykás alap, fekete csokival és komoly komlós keserűsséggel megspékelve. Hosszú, kissé fanyar, kesernyés, pörkölt utóíz. Közepesen testes.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle from Brewdog online. Hazy dark brown with a ridiculous 8 finger tan head, dying down to a stable and more reasonable one finger froth after a few minutes. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, hint of coffee, gentle roast. Taste is malty, caramel, roast, coffee, some dark chocolate, bit of a spice/yeast note, hoppy bitterness at the end. Not too dissimilar to a porter actually. Very smooth oily texture. Great.
Just a weird observation but this is a Danish beer that’s brewed in Belgium then exported to the US then imported to the UK. Bizarrely inefficient way for BrewDog to source this beer but I guess it was worth it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Goed.

Not quite my cup of beer, but still an interesting mix of bread malts and bitter hops.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with a large light brown head. Strong fruity and hoppy aroma of grapefruit and litchi. Taste is malty and complex. Dark chocolate and caramel with a decent bitterness that is, however, a little to persistent. Maybe a little high carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
6%ABV. Brown Ale.
Tapped out clear brown. 32şSRM.
Nose has roasted nuts with chestnuts, hazelnuts with a nice Christmas like spice profile with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate has black bread, roasted barley, sesame, stone fruit fullness. Spicy with cilantro and basil.
Finish is medium with spicy and bitter with a Woody finish at the end. The spicy Woody finish makes it feel almost like a purl, which has wormwood in it.
