Jan 2, 2010 Bottle: Chocolate brown, slight ruby, thick and hazy. Its like soup! Huge pillowy light beige head, nice lacing. Very muddy looking. Soft roasted malt nose, subtle hop, earthy. Not too big on
the tongue. Certainly roasty, just the right amount, but not as malty as I would have hoped. Almost on the thin side. Good flavor, but falls flat on the tongue. Lingering hop notes. Good, just wished it had
a bit more body.

Dec 28, 2009 Batch 60, 33cl bottle: This Brown Ale looks darker than some Porters. Aromas of chocolate and cocoa mix with a hoppiness that reminds me of freshly cracked spruce needles and freshly cut apricots - really nice. Espresso-like roasted malt flavour with woody, grassy and subtle alcoholic notes. Very rough bitterness and roasty acidity with a mild carbonation, mouthfeel is actually quite light. Decent beer, although it’s a bit over the top on the roastiness and bitterness for my liking.

Dec 28, 2009 Bottle at Hashigo Zake. Pours deep ruby red with a massive fizzy head. Big hoppy citrus nose with underlying chocolate.
Initial grapefruity hop bitterness progresses into a nice roasty chocolate. Hops make a comeback for a bitter finish. A confusing but amazing beer.

Dec 16, 2009 330ml bottle. Another great brew from Mikkeller. Poured a deep dark brown, bordering on black with a large rich creamy tan head. Wonderful coffee aromas assault the nose and are highlighted by strong burnt flavours that dominate the palate, sharp and bitter with a long finish.

Dec 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep mahogany with a nice reddish tint around the edges. Huge dense persistent coffee coloured head. Plenty of nice lacing once the head disappears. Aroma’s of roasted nutty malt, chocolate and plenty of US hops. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee and toasted malt upfront followed by the citrus and resiny pine from the hops. Finish is quite dry and bitter thanks to both the roasted malt and the hops. Definitely not what I expected but a good beer all the same.

Dec 5, 2009 33cl bottle. Pours a very dark brown with lighter edges, a creamy tan head with an oily, thickish lacing. Creamy milk chocolate aromas with notes of coffee and roasted malt and a hint of grassy hops in the background. Darker chocolate on the gonue with more coffee and roasted malts finishing with a dry, toasty, slightly burnt finish. Initially aggressive carbonation, slowly subsides to be quite smooth, medium body and a lovely lasting dry finish. Nice balance & bloody lovely overall. Rich & porterish.
