Ungstrup (11136), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 15, 2006 [Sampled to celebrate my 5900th rating] Opening and pouring this beer - it is definately the most lively beer from Mikkeller yet - when poured the head is enormous. The beer is very dark brown, not much light comes thru even when held against a lamp, but I seem to see a slight haze in it. The head is as mentioned enormous, but quite fluffy and dark brown in color. The aroma is quite complex, the main note being a dusty hoppiness, but combined with notes of chocolate, and citrus. The flavor is sweet at the very beginning, but the sweetness soon resides to strong roasted notes, combined with notes of chocolate, that turns more toward crushed cocoa - especially taking the dryness it gives into account. The flavor also contains hints of citrus. The alcohol is felt slightly in the end. I don’t find the beer very balanced with the strong sweetness just in the beginning and an extreme dryness in the end, but the extremes makes the beer very complex, so that You really have to take Your time drinking it, to take the challenge. For the style this is a wonderful beer, since it offers a complexity that is seldom found in Brown Ales. Another great beer from Mikkeller. omhper (10454), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 2, 2007 Updated: Jul 6, 2007Bottled. Dark mahogany colour, rich head. Grapefruity nose. Sweet withsome roasty chocolaty malt. Medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Lots of aromatic hops supported by firm clean malt. Finishes with medium bitterness. Very hoppy for a brown ale. Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 23, 2006 (Bottle 50 cl) Pours a slightly cloudy dark brown with an orange tint. Dense, light brown head. Lightly burned malt aroma. Medium body with a rather heavy carbonation. Roasted malt and burned, coffeeish touches. A surprising - for Mikkeller - subdued bitterness. Not much "Restsødme" (residual sweetness) left for Keller here. Perhaps the yeast ate it all? 211106 Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2006 Very dark chestnut brown. Nutty, earthy aroma. Light nutty flavour, with vague pale malt notes. Quick finish. There really isn’t anything going on in this one at all. I can barely find three words to write about it. joergen (6335), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 1, 2006 Bottle.
