Bottle, unexpectedly shipped from my father—thanks so much, dude! It’s an 11.2 FL OZ/331 mL bottle containing an inky brown-black combination with an ascending, amazingly fluffy mocha head, 4˝. fingers in length which gradually sank to just 1˝.. I may have to stand back the aromas are so intensely complex, but what I get almost immediate is: charcoal bricks, chili peppers (it most certainly teases the nostrils), cardamom spiciness (keyword here: "earthy"), chocolate almond milk (ironically, I had bought some recently and the nose is quite reminiscent of that), Dutched chocolate, tangerine peels (yes, there is indeed some citrus in this bitch, especially on the nose), wheat flour, cinnamon rolls/doughnut glaze, celery sticks, aluminum (oh, you know what I fuckin’ mean), Kero syrup, wormwood, anise, avocados (strangely, the avocado comes through in the aroma really strongly; didn’t think it would), pancake butter, pomegranates, roasted malts, brown sugar, and limeade. Tastes deliciously well-rounded, bittersweet, roasted, nutty, charred, and leathery with notes of chili pepper heat, almond butter, avocados, bay leaves, dark chocolate, burnt hay, and spent grains. Ends bitter and earthy; hops, spruce tips, white tea and bacon grease by swallow. Transformative! And I was starting to think that Mikkeller didn’t brew any beer worth good money. Fantastic fill!

33cl bottle at Cafe Local. APPEARANCE: pitch black beer, nice stable beige head. NOSE: herbs, coffee, mocha, vanilla, chili, nice! TASTE: coffee, chili, mocha, somewhat bitter, quite nice, especially for it’s ABV.

750mL bottle. Pours a wickedly dark brown, and enormous toasted brown cap and dense lacing. Aroma of yam, sweet chili, chocolate, cocoa, earth, muted licorice. Taste is sweet, with subtle bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, leaving a spicy, medium dry finish.

Really dark colour and pours very thick, a nice roasted aroma that isn’t too overpowering. A really complex flavour, reminding me almost of chilli chocolate but a lovely malt aftertaste, I want to have more purely to try and work out more of the flavours!

aroma: earthy, smashed black beans; warm honey, loads of coffee. appearance: darkest brown/black body; thick mocha head with excellent--almost too much--retention. taste: bitter dark chocolate, coffee, sweet vanilla like flavor (from the almond milk?), some earthy roastiness from beans and/or chilies. not much chili flavor. ends on a sharp, bitter vegetable note palate: medium in body, creamy syrup body. bitter finish. very interesting beer. not your bland domestic stout, that’s for sure. hard to finish a full glass, though.

Bottle from Capitol Beer& Tap Room. Pours near black with a huge brown head and a chocolate and chili aroma. There is a medium-bodied chocolate and treacle flavor with a slightly peppery finish. Strange flavors but pretty tasty.
