Bottle, unexpectedly shipped from my father—thanks so much, dude! It’s an 11.2 FL OZ/331 mL bottle containing an inky brown-black combination with an ascending, amazingly fluffy mocha head, 4½. fingers in length which gradually sank to just 1½.. I may have to stand back the aromas are so intensely complex, but what I get almost immediate is: charcoal bricks, chili peppers (it most certainly teases the nostrils), cardamom spiciness (keyword here: "earthy"), chocolate almond milk (ironically, I had bought some recently and the nose is quite reminiscent of that), Dutched chocolate, tangerine peels (yes, there is indeed some citrus in this bitch, especially on the nose), wheat flour, cinnamon rolls/doughnut glaze, celery sticks, aluminum (oh, you know what I fuckin’ mean), Kero syrup, wormwood, anise, avocados (strangely, the avocado comes through in the aroma really strongly; didn’t think it would), pancake butter, pomegranates, roasted malts, brown sugar, and limeade. Tastes deliciously well-rounded, bittersweet, roasted, nutty, charred, and leathery with notes of chili pepper heat, almond butter, avocados, bay leaves, dark chocolate, burnt hay, and spent grains. Ends bitter and earthy; hops, spruce tips, white tea and bacon grease by swallow. Transformative! And I was starting to think that Mikkeller didn’t brew any beer worth good money. Fantastic fill!

Bottle to pint glass Cocoa, milk, coffee, and chili aromas. Pours a dark black with a thin, dark tan mottled head with moderate retention. Taste is coffee, molasses, soy, bread, then changing to a sourness and ending with roast wood and grassy bitterness. Much later, as the bitterness recedes a nice warmness arises in the mouth. I can’t say that the almond milk, beans and avocado leaves make much of an appearance, but it doesn’t really matter much as this is quite good.

Bottle. Pitch black pour with a fairly dark tan head. Loads of roast, coffee, light heat, chillies, green peppers, toasty nuts. Ok!

Maybe I got a duff bottle but this was as gross as licking a dog’s nuts. Deeply astringent with more than a touch of Baby Bio about it.

Aroma is mocha, vanilla bean, espresso, chocolate and almond. Deep rich malts to boot. Taste is again rich and complex malts complete with caramel and chocolate. A light hop presence here that is well balanced and fitting. Appearance is black with a dark brown head that retains very well. Great beer.

Iznogud (1461) - CROATIA - MAY 16, 2015
Bottle, 330 ml from Svijet Piva, Zagreb. Pours dark brown with lasting brown head. Chocolate aroma. Roasted malts, chocolate, beans, bitter finish with hint of chilli. Complex, medium to full bodied. Looking at the ingredients list I was a bit sceptic but turns out its interesting and successful experiment.

Spice/herb et autres fumures avec – accrochez-vous solidement – du lait d’amandes, du cacao, du chili (5 sortes différentes!!!), des fèves noires et des feuilles d’avocat !!! Avec tout cela 5 malts et 3 houblons... On croit rêver !

Bottle from Toft Vin, Copenhagen - pours black with a brown head. Aroma and taste is a mix of dark roasted malts, chocolate, with some peppery and chilli running through it, some other spices and herbal notes, interesting brew.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a slightly translucent dull black with foamy beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; dark malt, mild roast and chocolate, and mild spices (both heat and non). Tastes Iike it smells, but less balanced. Little to no chocolate, and way more bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and bitter. Overpriced and underwhelming.
