3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Valgreen (16) - DENMARK - MAY 25, 2013
Bottle on the way to cph beer festival, 25/5 2013. Dark almost pitch black, nice lasting off white head. Aroma off roasted malts, coffee, sweet vanilla. The roasted malts are quite dominant in the taste, but there’s s pleasant sweetness from the lactose. Nice bitterness in the aftertaste. The body is a bit thin. Nice mouth feel. Great beer at only 6%.

Bottle. It pours a cremy, two-finger light beige head leaving lacings. Black body. Roasted, almost burnt aroma with coffee and milk chocolate. Quite sweet flavor, with roasted malts, burnt notes and coffee. Lots of milk chocolate. Some fruityness too. Maybe a bit low on bitterness. Full to medium body, very smooth and soft. Lasting roasted, chocolatey finish. Sure pleasant and tasteful, easy drinkable and well worth a revisit. 130504

Bottle at home from Brewdog online
Pours dark mahogany-black with towering fluffy nicotine yellow-brown head that collapses to a more manageable size after a few moments. Quite a lot of umami and roast barley notes on the nose. Surprisingly soft in the mouth, full bodied as one would expect from a milk stout, but without the immediate lactose sweetness normally perceived. this instead bubbles along in the background behind sweet chocolate, burnt raisins and fruity coffee notes. V easy drinking with nary a hint of the alcohol within. There’s a long finish, but its fairly sweet and leaves me hankering for something drier. An enjoyable interpretation but i prefer Bristol beer factory milk over this any day.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 LicoriceKing (30) - DENMARK - APR 27, 2013
Black with a slightly brown creamy-looking head. Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, roasty, licorice, bready. Taste: Very aggressive in comparison. A lot of licorice up front, leading into a dry coffee finish. Dark chocolate, rye and roasted malt. The palate is creamy, ending in a dry roasty finish. This beer took me by surprise. Smooth palate as you would expect from the style, but the actual taste is much more aggressive. Pretty sessionable, especially for a Mikkeller beer. I might try this again.
