Bottle. A cloudy dark brown beer. with a large, frothy, mostly diminishing off-white to light brown head. The aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain/bread), lightly yeasty (basement), with a strong note of raspberries and rapberry syrup, other notes of cherries, aged wine, wood, sugar and berries. The flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, hint of bitterness. Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy/thick texture, lively carbonation, rather long finish with light bitterness, moderately alcoholic, acetic, moderately cloying. Probably the most raspberry oriented stuff I’ve ever had. Barrels and fruits are integrated and at the same time powerful in the nose, but a bit cloying after few sips in the mouth experience. Not properly what I normally seek, but I’m really glad to have tried it.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Unique aroma of burnt malts and raspberries. The taste is very bitter and tangy, with a nice mixture of fruit and darkness, rolling into a very unique beer. Dry, flavorful finish. The wine barrel gives it a very dry and tangy flavor and finish. Very good-wish I had bought a few more of these.

Very interesting stuff. My first pour out of the bottle was quite ugly. Let it warm up for the second pour and it made a fantastically huge off white thick foamy head and was a much prettier garnet color. Aroma is straight raspberry and de proef weirdo funk and a decent amount of alcohol. Pretty sweet beer and absolutely loaded with raspberries, maybe some brett sourness but it’s hard to tell if it might just be the tartness of the raspberries, maybe something just slightly lactic, again really hard to decipher, but tasty, actually now that I take another wiff there is definitely some ethyl acetate going on, monks brew is a nice base for this, lightly grassy and slick with plenty of sugary sweetness although the mouthfeel isn’t too goopy making it fairly drinkable. Quite unique and the raspberries meld with the sourness wonderfully.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Bottle... Murky dark-brown ale with a mid-sized, creamy, latte head. Great retention. The nose offers a malty, fruity and acidic medley of raspberry, milk chocolate, red wine, burnt caramel and lactic sourness. Medium-bodied with busy carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty, sour and fruity with heaps of red raspberries. Finishes tart, fruity and vinous. Pulls up just a touch shy of being world class. Bottle courtesy of growler!
