4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep brown with red tones... almost like a burgundy color... but not quite. The head is medium sized and sticks around for the long haul.
The aroma is big and sweet and weird. Loads of brown sugar, plums, molasses, rum, & oak. Rich smelling and certainly not like almost any beer aroma I’ve ever experienced. It’s lightly funky with some red wine but lots of dark fruit,
It’s hard to even do justice to the flavor of the beer, straight out of the cooler it was boozy, a touch too boozy... but with warmth that mellows, and what remains is a layerd complex beast of a beer that consistently gives one pause to think about everything going on. Brown sugar, rum, red wine, fig and plum are sort of all working together well while the raspberries provide a tartness and work playfully with the light funky and sour character of the beer. The oakiness is ever-present but not overpowering or even all that dominant. The beer is mildly sweet but well balanced. Things are just sort of working harmoniously here, and the beer is just so unique, complex, and yet so pleasing. One wishes to savor the bottle, but alas it goes too quickly.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. A cloudy dark brown beer. with a large, frothy, mostly diminishing off-white to light brown head. The aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain/bread), lightly yeasty (basement), with a strong note of raspberries and rapberry syrup, other notes of cherries, aged wine, wood, sugar and berries. The flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, hint of bitterness. Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy/thick texture, lively carbonation, rather long finish with light bitterness, moderately alcoholic, acetic, moderately cloying. Probably the most raspberry oriented stuff I’ve ever had. Barrels and fruits are integrated and at the same time powerful in the nose, but a bit cloying after few sips in the mouth experience. Not properly what I normally seek, but I’m really glad to have tried it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Unique aroma of burnt malts and raspberries. The taste is very bitter and tangy, with a nice mixture of fruit and darkness, rolling into a very unique beer. Dry, flavorful finish. The wine barrel gives it a very dry and tangy flavor and finish. Very good-wish I had bought a few more of these.
