Iíve been aging this for about a year and a half. Loved it originally, and tonight decided to see how itís holding up. Dark brown, medium carbonation. Aroma worried me a little, thought I picked up a little bandaid. After sipping it for a while the aroma seems much frutier and pleasant. Intense ripe raspberry flavor, more than I remember. A little barnyard tartness up front, then tons of rich, dark berry flavors, with just a little syrupy sweetness. Itís just so good. Hard to compare from a fleeting moment years ago, but Iíd say this is aging extremely well. Will try again in 6 months or a year.

Bottle shared by the group in Sept.2012. Pours a deep amber brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have bright raspberry character, lesser vinous notes, caramel, tartness, some funk, wood and some yeast. Dry mid palate to the finish. I thought everything came together pretty well.

12.7 oz green bottle. Found this on the discount shelf at my local beer shop. Not sure how old it is, but itís been at Enoteca for 15 months or so. Aroma is pungent, astringent, boozy, chocolate, raspberries, oak; stings the nostrils. This smells like some heavy shit. Pours muddy opaque brown with a fast collapsing beige head. Taste is a nice improvement compared to the over the top nose. Itís astringent, but the pure raspberry flavor is a real delight. Itís actually really tart--wasnít expecting that. The base beer may have started out as a quad, but this bears little resemblance to any kind of quad Iíve ever had. Itís like a framboise crossed with an imperial chocolate stout or something. Tastes like raspberries covered in a boozy chocolate sauce. You know what? Fuck my initial impression of the aroma (score of 6). This is growing on me. Upping it...More thoughts: after sitting awhile, the base beer does come through. Itís like a really jammy, plummy, chocolaty quad crossed with a framboise. My initial imperial chocolate stout impression was incorrect. Fascinating and complex.

Bottle poured into snifter. Pours a dark amber with off white head. Aromas of fruit and mustiness. Tastes of fruit raspberries up front with lingering tartness.

Bottle. Nose is like raspberry cocoa ice cream smothered in red wine. Flavors are vinous, semi-wooded, with berries, and hints of dark fruits. All blend relatively well, finishing with a great red wine tannin lingering.

Pours a dark reddish brown color. Huge raspberry aroma, some barrel ad light vinous character. Tons of raspberry flavor, thick syrupy sweet, light tartness. Very fruity overall.

Bottle shared. Pours deep ruby/brown with a frothy beige head. Aroma is very fruity, red fruits, raspberries, then some molasses, caramel, chocolate, toffee and grapes. Taste is light sour, moderate sweet and light bitter. Long fruity finish, some alcohol. Very very well balanced. Normally quads arenít my thing, but this one is beautifully done, the barrel aging and raspberry additions work amazingly well. Top notch.

Depending on the age (or batch?) the molasses can overwhelm the raspberries. However, when in balance, one of the best beers ever.
