Draft at BBF 2011, courtesy of Mikkel’s crew, thanks! Dark brown color, brown head. Aroma of must, dust, prunes, dates. Taste is funky cocoa and moldy coffee grounds. Interesting.

Bottle, 375ml, courtesy of meilby. It pours an unclear, dark ruby to brown body and a dense, finger-thick off-white to beige head. Oaked, red wine-ish, brett-aroma with dried fruits, dark berry notes, some alcohol and a touch of white sugar. Quite complex. It has a good warmth in the mouth, it’s full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated. A touch of metal in the far end. The brett and barrels sure win the flavor combat, there’s not much left of the original beer, except for the alcohol. Even though it’s quite dry, there’s a good dash of residual sweetness to be found. Sort of peppery too in the very end. Well, this one’s a clash of worlds, but it’s also a damn fine one, in a way combining the red sour beers of Flandern with the sweet quadrupels the monks brew. Lovely, but demanding. 110420

Bottle shared in London for Josh’s farewell tasting. Thanks to Josh himself for this one. Pours hazy brown with a creamy beige head. Lots of lightly tart fruits in the nose, berries, wood. Medium sweet flavor with a bit of woody alcohol, bread, mildly tart fruits, ripe citrus, faint toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with lingering tart fruits, mild acidity, slight caramel. Nice.
