3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 yngwie (10760) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - APR 20, 2011
Bottle, 375ml, courtesy of meilby. It pours an unclear, dark ruby to brown body and a dense, finger-thick off-white to beige head. Oaked, red wine-ish, brett-aroma with dried fruits, dark berry notes, some alcohol and a touch of white sugar. Quite complex. It has a good warmth in the mouth, it’s full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated. A touch of metal in the far end. The brett and barrels sure win the flavor combat, there’s not much left of the original beer, except for the alcohol. Even though it’s quite dry, there’s a good dash of residual sweetness to be found. Sort of peppery too in the very end. Well, this one’s a clash of worlds, but it’s also a damn fine one, in a way combining the red sour beers of Flandern with the sweet quadrupels the monks brew. Lovely, but demanding. 110420

Deep light muddy brown with a small, staying, frothy, beige head. Nice lacings. Aroma is light tart, nuts, plums, grapes, vinious, red wine, some leathery notes. Red apple zest. Medium carbonation, lovely dry and creamy palate. Flavour has lots of definite red wine, sweet plums and raisins, vinious, mild tartness and with a good bretty dry character to the finish. Really a very lovely drink.
