Pours a dark dull brown with a s small thin fine white froth. Authentic Belgian Trappist Quad aroma, fruity, raisins, doughy sugars, red berries, light spices. Super dry first taste, dark aged berries, dark brown sugar, nutty, slight bitterness from the lightly burnt molasses, dark Belgian candi sugar, doughy yeastiness, very light esters and some powdered sugar. Finish has a bit of dry chocolate and coffee beans. Medium bodied with fluffy carbonation, a bit light for a quad, but very easy drinking. I love it a true quad. Pours dark brown with an average, rocky, off-white head, mostly lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, roasted grain), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leather, earth) with notes of apple, pear, and brown sugar. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness. Cornfield (4926), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Picked this up at Wise Guys in Merrillville, Indiana, U.S.A. Why they sell it as "Brew" instead of "Elixir" in the States is beyond me,since the latter is a way cooler name. It has a Coca Cola pour except that the head vanishes more quickly. It has an aroma of purple grapes, raisins, punes, dark brown sugar, molasses, and alcohol. The flavor is pretty straight arrow, although it has a sharp flamora - pretty much the same as the nose except that the alcohol is hotter. The finish is interestingly sweet but dry. Pretty decent. swoopjones (1897), Buffalo, New York, USA

Liked but probably wouldnt buy again at least at the prices there robforbes (1085), Bremerton, Washington, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2008 This dark brown ale poured with a decent tan head and a toffee aroma. The flavor slightly more watery that one would guess from the appearance. However, it is still somewhat complex with notes of chocolate and plum over a roasted malt base. The high alcohol content is not really noticeable in the taste.
